    Haley the Drive Killer

    What a contrast to the play calling. You can really tell sometimes when the Steelers are running strictly designed plays called by Haley.
    The first couple of series netted nothing, all designed calls from Haley. He sure loves those bubble screens.
    After that, the Steelers opened up a little and Ben started passing, some passes you could tell were on him, not the called play.

    After getting behind, Ben was aggressive, most passes were him just throwing down field. Ironically, the Steelers were most successful when running this style of up tempo aggressive style. It fits Ben's style.

    After playing like that for nearly 2 quarters and getting back in game, we are only down 7, just get the ball back on a huge punt block. This following Ben completing 14/15 passes.
    So what do the Steelers do? They revert back to running Haley's calls. 3 straight conservative running plays and a questionable 4th down call. We got the ball at the 50 yard line and got nothing. Could have continued to be aggressive and throw the ball and maybe tied the game at that point, but they didn't.

    Then the Jaguars do what the Steelers should have, they are aggressive and throw the ball down field, building the lead back up to 14.

    And what do the Steelers do after that? They revert back to letting Ben be aggressive and throw and score.

    If the Steelers had run Haley's offense the entire game, the final score would have been 42-17.

    The first 15 plays of each game are scripted by Haley. I'm just glad we don't have to put up with the guy any longer....I'm assuming he's gone. Addition by subtraction.

      looked like rosie was pissed coming off on that 3rd and 1 after the blocked punt

      there is an extreme disconnect between this QB and OC. if tomlin watches another year of it, then its a travesty. you can make the case this divorce should have happened a year or two ago. this relationship has been toxic for awhile

      the stillers need ben a hell of alot more than they need todd haley

        Fichtner is not the answer though. If he was, he would've been a coordinator a long time ago. They need an aggressive hire. With this veteran group of guys, you need a shake-up. You need a fresh face like Josh McDaniel (when he was new), McVay... a guy who will fundamentally shake things up and make us rethink the way we do things. Fichtner will only be a continuation of the status quo.

        I don't know if we got a bright, young guy on our offensive staff, but that is the way I'd go.
        I wasn't hired for my disposition.

          You cant shake things up with a new OC and expect Ben to learn a new system with one foot out the door.
          Fichtner is just what we need for the next year or so.
          Just my opinion.

              Josh McDaniels... haahaa I keep hearing his name come up. Take a look:

              As OC with Brady as QB his offenses %W/L ranked in the NFL:
              2006 = 4th
              2007 = 1st
              2008 = 6th
              In Denver as HC:
              2009 = 16th
              2010 = 29th
              In STL as OC:
              2011 = 31st
              Back in NE as OC with Brady:
              2012 = 3rd
              2013 = 3rd
              2014 = 1st
              2015 = 3rd
              2016 = 1st
              2017 = 1st

              Notice any correlation??

                What you are describing sounds like what is needed at the top (as well as OC).

                  when he has a HOF QB he's able to maximize the offense's potential???

                  I'd take that.
