Schefter tabs Randy Fichtner as Steelers' possible new OC

Schefter tabs Randy Fichtner as Steelers' possible new OC
Fichtner has been a member of Pittsburgh's coaching staff since the 2007 season.

Randy Fichtner's name is already being mentioned as a possible replacement for Todd Haley.

On Monday morning, ESPN's Adam Schefter said that he would not be surprised to see Pittsburgh's quarterbacks coach replace Haley as the Steelers' offensive coordinator for the 2018 season. Haley does not have a new contract for next season.

The 54-year-old Fichtner has been in coaching since 1986. After 21 seasons at the collegiate level, Fichtner broke into the NFL as the Steelers' wide receivers coach in 2007, Mike Tomlin's first season as Pittsburgh's head coach. Fichtner was moved into his current role as quarterbacks coach in 2010

During the 2017 season, Fichtner went from the coach's booth to the sideline, a move that some thought was an indication of Ben Roethlisberger's relationship with Haley, which was been reported as tenuous on several occasions. By all accounts, it seems that Fichtner and Big Ben have a very strong rapport, something that would certainly make him a strong candidate for the job as offensive coordinator if the Steelers decide to part with Haley.

Expect Tomlin to address Haley's future with the team during his season ending press conference that should take place later this week.

Ben and Arians were good buddies too, and that worked out nicely... Newsflash!!! Ben is not changing the way he plays or adapting to a "new" style of offense. He didn't at 29 and certainly not at 36.

Rooney, " Fourth and inches, do you line up Bell behind Nix in eye formation up the gut?"

Fitchner, "Yes Sir, or do a QB sneak!

      Rooney, " your hired!"

In other news, Mularky just got fired....

If this guy has ever even heard of a QB sneak they should hire him on the spot

I honestly think Haley is a decent OC, although most of our points seem to come from incredible individual efforts as opposed to well designed plays. But Haley is way too cutesy, and his relationship with Ben is 'strained' at best. He needs to go

I'm good with that, 100%, maybe they ought to turn the offense over to Ben and just have a coach to work with Ben during the week to help put together a plan, but let Ben execute it as he sees fit.

Guardrails? Who needs em? Tell me, deep down in your heart when you saw Ben take off and run with it and then fake the pitch and gain another 8 yards you weren't like, "Hell yeah Ben, do your thing." And then the pass back to Bell after a a gain? Guardrails, there are no guardrails where we are going. (To be said like Dr. Emmitt Brown in Back to the Future.)
