    Time for a change

I will bring it up now that season is over and we have time to reflect. Is it now time to seriously consider a 4-3 defense. If we are considering booting Butler after yesterday's embarrassment then bring in a guy who can run the 4-3 and start fresh

The reality is Shazier's career is over and he is far and away the talent that covered a bunch of deficiencies at linebacker. I think given how weak we are at Linebacker, it is time to go to the 4-3 as it better matches the talent we actually have. You could have a great defensive line with Tuitt, Heyward, Hargrave and possibly McCullers and/or LT Walton.

Both Watt and Durpee are athletic enough to play OLB in a 4-3, the latter may be better suited for it. We then have to use free agency or the draft to get a Middle LB

    It's time for a change.

Agree 100%. As of now it seems Ben is coming back... so we have one more year of solid QB play. It's obvious the defense needs addressed. Some of it may be personnel... but I think more of the problems are scheme/coaching related.

On a broader note, this whole season has felt somewhat off... and I think it starts with Tomlin. Game management, time management, guys not being focused on the task at hand... LB-"Next year's money".. Tomlin-"Looking forward to game 2 vs the Pats". It is obvious that Tomlin is not going anywhere... so the best we can hope for is that Tomlin will surround himself with top notch talent in the coaching ranks...which will make his job easier. He clearly doesn't have it right now.

Yesterday was not a Tomlin problem it was execution plain and simple. Defense was out of sync entire first half. That is on Butler. Coordinators prepare their respective sides of the ball for the game.

You think it was execution, plain and simple? Execution implies mistakes. I think it went beyond mistakes. We were out-physical'd.

Yea Tomlin was a problem... for allowing terrible play calls to happen on the field. Those 2- 4th and 1 calls and the onside kick summarize it perfectly. Second half the D tightened up enough... we should have rolled the dice on a stop and kicked it deep.

ehh, no. The D didn't tighten up enough. No turnovers, no impact plays, no sacks.

On side kicks have about a 10% chance of succeeding.. I think our odds of a stop were better than that. In fact, I believe they did make the stop... too bad they were already in field goal range.

but I agree... there were no sacks... no impact plays... no turnovers... No answers.... I am wondering what our Coaching Staff was looking at with the Jags offense these last few weeks?

Exactly... and if that's the case, we got what we deserved.

we made the stop because the Jags weren't concerned with getting a first down to end the game.

we had so many other times to make stops and failed. I get percentages and what is the correct call on paper but what I watched yesterday was a D was sucked so bad I can't even get mad at an onside kick attempt.

JAGs would have likely run the ball on 1st and 2nd down like they did anyways... I agree that we failed on several attempts to get off the field. We also gave them 14 points due to turnovers. JAGS defense is feeling good about themselves right now, but they are going to get destroyed next weekend.

Third down performance on defense was a disappointment. The inability to generate a pass rush was unacceptable

Very true. I guess I saw it as a 3rd down stop being a higher % of success than recovering an onside kick. As poor as the defense played, they did finally get some stops in the second half.
