    How To Beat Jacksonville

The Jags' D is a tough matchup because they do such a good job of generating pressure with 4. They have a solid group of LBs and they're really good in coverage. Our QB likes to go downfield and the Jags are built to neutralize our strengths.

However, I do think with the emergence of Juju and McDonald, we can create some matchup problems for them. I think our best bet is to run and pass out of 11 personnel. With Bell, Vance, Juju, AB, and MB on the field, I think we have the most flexibility. We can slide out Bell and McDonald and go 5 wide out of this grouping or Juju is physical enough, we can run with Vance and even Juju playing a TE role.

Ben has to be patient and take what the Jags give us. And I see the matchups being in the middle of the field to Bell, Vance, and Juju. We might have to go against the grain and take a little dink and dunk moving the ball down the field. A heavy mix of running has to be a staple of the offense. And we have to draw up some creative plays to take advantage of the Jags aggressive nature. Move the pocket to give Ben some time. Heavy on the play action. Some misdirections. And I'd like to see us go up tempo in a no huddle to start the game to tire out the front 4. One of the only ways I see us slowing down these guys up front is to increase the tempo. And let's run a few screens and draws to Bell to keep them honest and slow them down a bit. Our Oline has their work cut out for them and it's time for those guys to earn their Pro Bowl nods.

Defensively, I don't see the need to change much from the first meeting. Bortles didn't have 100 yards passing against us. He didn't have a 100 last week. The only thing we need to be concerned about is making tackles, stopping the run, and keeping Bortles in the pocket and not letting him beat us with his feet. We gave up a lot of yards in the running game last time, but I think if we make tackles we can be fine. It's just a couple plays here and there that were the difference.

Would be nice to generate a turnover or 2 of our own. We need to come out fast because the Jags aren't built to play from behind. If we can force them to play catchup and can run the ball to speed up the game, this can quickly turn into a blow out if we get an early lead.

The game that gives me hope is the game Ben recently put up 500 yards passing against the Ravens. Their pass D is no slouch. Not quite Jax, but one of the better Ds in the league. And this offense is night and day different from the beginning of the season. I'm with Bell in thinking no one can really stop us. Ben has too many weapons. Too many options. And the Oline is playing the best it has in ages.

The only thing that worries me is we start slow because of the rust of 3 weeks off. But this is the playoffs. I think everyone on this team has something to prove, especially Ben. And the Steelers are hungry. This is the time we're not overlooking anyone. We have something to prove. This team has a chip on it's shoulders. Our time is now.

Key to beating J-ville is to get an early lead. They are challenged to rely on their passing game to play catch up.

We aren't going to get much running because Bell's style of being patient actually works to their D-line's advantage because they just hold their lanes and don't get overly aggressive. Need lots of dinks and dumps to keep drives alive

Fournette ran for 181 yards in that October meeting so stacking the box and daring Bortles to beat you through the air on a 20 degree day seems logical. On offense try not to throw the football 55 times again. I recall that the Steelers were winning that first meeting 9-7 in the third quarter right before the bottom completely fell out so just don’t get reckless in the passing game again.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

Fournette DID run for 181 yards...but 90 of those came on one run, late in the 4th quarter, after the D was gassed from Ben throwing 5 INTs. Until that point, he had 91 yards on 27 carries. If we don’t throw 5 picks in the game, our D can contain him...

The Jags have a D that can generate pressure with 4 and has a secondary with two pro bowl corners. On the other hand, their run D was poor to start the year but improved with the addition of Dareus from Buffalo prior to the deadline.

My key is hitting your TEs quickly and Bell on screens early. Once the D is forced to adjust you then counter depending on their changes. If they slow down the rush then run the ball. If they bring extra defenders up close to the line then use size disadvantages with Bryant or one-on-one with AB.

On D it should not be quite as tough as against other teams. It would be great to have Shazier as a wild card QB spy/coverage/blitzer/sideline to sideline run defender, but there is no home run threat on the Jacksonville offense.

I think if the Steelers are willing to go man defense with our CBs, they should be able to contain Fournette and even assign a spy on Bortles...

Scheme aside u win this game by winning in the trenches. It will be trench warfare n whoever plays better there will likely come out on top. Of course getting a healthy AB back gives us an edge.

Not sure I agree with moving the bit about moving the pocket. Ben has a remarkable ability to break out of a collapsing pocket and make big plays. If you move the pocket you are taking away part of the field from him and those sandlot plays go out the window.

I think the most sure-fire way to win this is to get Bell going (either on the ground or with dump-offs/wheel routes).
In response to his pleas, an officer said: "You think we've never arrested somebody that's made national media? ... We deal with the Bengals all the time."

                              IMHO

The game comes down to on offense...Martavis Bryant has a full coming out party. You have two of the best corners that will likely be on JuJu and AB. If they decide to keep one on Martavis then it's JuJu's time in the spotlight.

But also we need James and McDonald on their A game.

And ultimately Haley/Tomlin need to not be Andy Reid and give to Leveon, give it Leveon and give it to Leveon.

On "D" it's simple (easier said than done) but it's the Blake Bortles show. I fhe throws 4 TD's and you lose you tip your cap to them...but you don't let the run beat you on Sunday.

is 8 in the box sometimes...is it gap discipline--absolutely. Is it sell out for the run? Not entirely but you brought Haden in for this purpose. Their WR's don't scare anyone. Fournette looks tired and while it was 200 yard day...until the 90 yard collapse at the end it was a 91 yard day. and If you look behind the numbers outside of that run (and I know you can't unerase it) he was averaging 3.3 ypc (27 carries 91 yards).

It was couple with Ivory who added another 51 yards on 8 carries that made it so bad (5.5 ypc).

                              8-14 95 yds 0 TD's 1 Int. That was Bortles...

Yep let him try to beat you

Without really bad picks they only put up 16 pts even with 231 yds rushing. It took 2 pick 6's to take us out of the game.

I know you can't take out anyting in a game it plays the way it plays but I have to say that I have faith that Ben won't have a 5 pick game and won't cough up two pick 6's again.

Even with the 4 DL...he was sacked only twice for -11 yards.

Looking back at the box score (not the game) I think there is a real good chance to win this one. It's a tough match up but I don't think the Steelers make the same mistakes in this one.
