    Living In The Cleveland Area...

...I’ve had to deal the schadenfreude of hapless Browns fans. I just want to share some of my responses...they didn’t make me feel better about the game, but I hope that they can take the the edge off for some of you:

    1) Hey, maybe one day, you can be happy about your team winning instead of my team losing.

    2) There have been three Star Wars movies released in theatres since the last time the Browns won a road game. (10/2015)

    3) We have more playoff wins in the last 11 months than the Browns have had since 1990.

    Those were my favorites...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

      1) The Browns have not won a game on a Sunday in more than 700 days.
      2) The QB with the most wins in Cleveland Browns/First Energy Stadium since the Browns came back into the league in 1999? A: Ben Roethlisberger

I like telling my one Browns friend: "I wish I was a Browns fan, it's so easy. You're the champs in April, and by the third or fourth week in September you don't have to worry about football anymore until next April.

You might also remind them about a certain "Soldier Boy" names Kellen Winslow. Seems to me that they could have drafted a QB that's won a bunch of games on their field instead of a loud mouth TE that never really did anything in the NFL.

If you have never read about how the Browns passed on taking Big Ben it’s an interesting story with commentary form the main decision makers. They brought him in for a workout on a horrible weather day (cold, windy, drizzle) and he crushed it. And they still passed on him come draft day. The Browns had signed Jeff Garcia in the offseason and thought he could be a mentor to Tim Couch or come in for a couple of years if needed.

            From the article:

Butch Davis, former Browns head coach and executive vice president, 2001-04: "Everybody recognized he was an enormous physical talent. There couldn't have been a worse day during his workout. It became apparent he could put on a show. It was cold, it was blustery, kind of drizzly, like every Sunday in that division. He threw it extremely well. I like working out guys because you can see firsthand what they can really do."

Frisman Jackson, former Browns receiver, 2002-05: "Coach Davis and the rest of the staff, the GM and some other people said we want you to fly with us to work out this kid. I had no idea who it was. I realized we were in Ohio, and they said, we're going to work out Ben Roethlisberger. We got our cleats on and ran routes for him for about 30 to 45 minutes. We ran the whole route tree. Everything he was throwing was accurate, hitting you in stride. He put on a show. I told him, 'Your arm is strong as hell.' He threw a heavy ball."

            This is hilarious:

Mike Mularkey, former Buffalo Bills head coach: "We were going to take him at 12. Thanks for reminding me."

            The story:

With the No. 6 pick in 2004, the Browns were in position to draft Ben Roethlisberger and change the course of their franchise. What went wrong?

              This is also unbelievable:

When the Browns had their expansion draft waaaaaay back in February of 1999, the St. Louis Rams made Kurt Warner available in the expansion draft...instead, the Browns took Scott Milanovich and passed on Warner...

That year, Warner went on to throw 41 TD passes and earn a Super Bowl ring with the Rams...

To add insult to injury, the following year, the Browns selected Spergon Wynn with pick #183...Tom Brady was picked at #199 in the same round...

They have been cursed and mismanaged since day one...

Carson Wentz two years ago will haunt them for years.

Kurt was made available because he was an unknown.

I also don’t fault them for passing on Brady. Everyone passed on him.

I do fault them for recently having top 5 points cold and refusing to pick a QB. It’s like they pride themselves on being so good they don’t need a legit top 5 QB.

                    You would think so...

But, at that time, the Browns QB coach was a man named John Hufnagel (Pittsburgh area native!). Before becoming the Browns QB coach, he had been the Head Coach of the New Jersey Red Dogs (now the Cleveland Gladiators) of the Arena Football League. Kurt Warner led the Iowa Barnstormers to the AFL championship game in 1996 and 1997. Heck, the Barnstormers, led by Warner, destroyed Hufnagel’s Red Dogs when they played in 1997. If anyone in the NFL should have known about Warner, it is definitely the QB coach of the team that passed on him.

I do agree about Brady, but only 13 picks separating Wynn from Brady? Ouch...
