    Shazier Placed On Injured Reserve...

...as expected. Placing him on IR opens a roster spot for JuJu Smith-Schuster's return to the team...

The Steelers may have another decision to make next week when Gilbert's 4 game suspension is finished...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

I think Inside LB now joins Safety as one of our top picks in the next draft.

I hope Shazier can overcome this because I think he is a great player but I have serious doubts.

Does anyone know what vertebrae were operated on?
      That will determine a lot.

        Statement on Shazier, Dec. 14

        Posted 22 minutes ago

The following statement regarding LB Ryan Shazier was released by UPMC on Thursday afternoon.

        Statement by UPMC

Ryan Shazier remains hospitalized at UPMC recovering from the spinal stabilization surgery performed last week by UPMC neurosurgeons and Steelers team physicians Drs. David Okonkwo and Joseph Maroon. Mr. Shazier has started physical rehabilitation as part of his recovery process. Further updates will be provided by UPMC.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Ryan Shazier Has Regained Feeling in Legs, Father Expects Him to Play Again

Vernon Shazier, the father of injured Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier told WPXI’s Lisa Sylvester that his son has regained feeling in his legs and believes Shazier will play football again in the future (h/t Adam Bittner (http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2018/01/04/ryan-shazier-feeling-legs-walking-spinal-injury-updates-steelers-bengals/stories/201801040209?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Socia l&utm_source=Twitter#link_time=1515106604 (tel:1515106604)) of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).
"He's making progress daily," Vernon said. "He's a long way from where he was on that Monday night."

Call me skeptical. Its nice to put out positive news for public consumption but I can't believe that a doctor would clear him to play football again nor do I think the Steelers would take the risk of him coming back and having a more serious injury. Hope I'm wrong

Well i'm not a doctor but i'd have to assume that the level of vertebrae fused would factor into this.
Fusions are usually done with screws and rods and stay in after the bones have fused together in most cases.
The spinal cord ends at the T-12/L-1 level so fusion with hardware at/or above that level could potentially cause paralysis if he injures that weakened area by returning to football.
My vertebrae is fused from L-4 through S-1 and at that level its a bundle of nerves called the cauda equina.
He probably shouldnt risk playing football ever again.

Great news for Shazier and his family. I think this injury has been in the back of a lot of Steelers' fans minds since it happened, and we are all really happy to hear some progress.
