Great coaching by Tomlin, Haley ...

Not just all around this game, but on that last play ...

They told the team ... with 4 seconds left ... if you get the ball in the field of play, get down right away to the ground to stop the clock.

Worked perfectly - Bell gets a short pass from Ben, hits the deck, we have time to call a T.O. --- and the rest is Bozz-history!!!

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

Yes. Overall, it was a mix of good and bad. The D was horrible all game, except in brief stretches.
The O could have been better, but played well overall. The two ints were bad.

The team was fortunate to win the game considering the 3 turnovers. The big plays killed the defense.

Not their best but they still find ways to win. That is a good sign

A win is a win. But this kind of Play on D is likely not getting us far in the playoffs.

I have to wonder if they thought they could take advantage of an inexperienced QB and just got overaggressive. There were some missed tackles, but a lot looked like flat out blown coverages. I am not an authority on secondary play, but I have to ask those who are, is there not a way to correct this? It looks like it is not a one-off, but a consistent problem with the way we play.

Actually, I would say the opposite. They played very well outside of a few bad plays.

The scheme of the defense has been very good. They are just blowing assignments. GB only had one sustained scoring drive and the rest were due to ugly missed assignments. They gave up 3.3 yards per carry. 150 of Hundley's 245 passing yards came on three plays.

The Bad News: Big plays will kill them and it's impossible to say they are playing well until they get it figured out and clean up the misses assignments.
The Good News: That is much easier to fix than just getting ground into dust with a bunch of 12 play, 80 yard drives.

It's mostly film study and player discipline to fix it. Stop biting on double moves unless you have help behind you.

Keep in mind. One was from a backup CB who had not played a down for us until Haden got hurt. The other was a CB who is the second youngest player on the team and just started playing football full time last year.

Tackling is the other issue but is a problem around the league. Only 13 practices per season where contact is allowed. It's difficult to correct something you cannot practice.

One more thing. It's funny how smart or dumb Haley becomes depending on how well Ben plays.

I wonder how smart Haley and Tomlin would have been if the Packers had won the game with a last second FG?

That has nothing to do with scoring 30 points two games in a row.

It was sarcasm, sorry, you haven't been around that long, but Haley's and Tomlin's football IQ ebb and flow with wins and losses on this board.

It was an ugly win. Dungy commented that the Friday practice was exactly the same. Dropped passes, missed defensive assignments, poor tackling, bad kicks. Practice like you play. The CBA has really impacted the quality of the game. But some teams seem to have found a way to make it work. PHI in particular looks like a well-oiled machine on both sides of the ball.
Starting to have concern that the Steelers may once again be embarassed by TB and company. Hope they can come around but it's hard to be positive when you see what we witnessed against a lame duck team.
