Anyone know how much practice time is spent on going over the game plan ...

... vs. something like, "Hey, specific player ABC - film room showed you missed a boatload of easy tackles this past game, and that hurt us badly. We're going to coach you up one-on-one on tackling techniques..."

Or, something like, "Hey DBs, film room shows you are biting WAY too much on the play action, and that's why you got burned crispy deep so much this past game. We're going to work on that in practice this week so you don't do it this next game".

I have no idea, having never been in a football locker room or on any football field except sandlot (though I've done lots of that!) ...

Don't know the exact answer to questions like those, but I heard a similar discussion regarding practice on one of the football radio shows. The discussion was about tackling in particular, and how bad it has become because the players don't hit in practice anymore. Therefore, it is not the type of thing that gets worked on properly at practice either during camp or through the season.

They were also talking about the way that different teams practice differently. Such as, if the team is running an offensive passing drill, they might want the DB to run with the receiver but not make a play on the ball - because they want to see what the offensive players can do and they wouldn't want the DB and receiver to get tangled up and possibly hurt. Other teams figure that you don't get free tries in a game so play for everything.

      Interesting, thanks for that, steeler_fan_in_t.o.

Tuesday is off day for players but not coaches who review game plans on Tuesday and install that into practice on Wednesday n Thursday with special teams mostly reviewed on Fridays. Game planning and special team planning goes on in the off season as well coaches looking for tendencies what worked against certain teams in certain situations so when the game week comes up during the regular season they are already familiar with some tendencies and what they want to install.

That's pretty much what they do on Mondays. They review the prior game and discuss those types of issues.

Tuesday is an off day for the players and the coaches use that day to install the game plan for the next week. The QB probably gets it on Tuesday, but the rest of the team get the game plan during Wednesday meetings and then practice.

Maybe just maybe the D should try to squeeze in some tackling drills during the week

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

You get a total, yes, TOTAL of 13 contact practices all season because of the CBA. Tackling is awful league wide.
