It's an idea I've postulated for a while now, but do you guys think that perhaps the reason the team always seems to really round into shape at the end of the season has just as much to do with parts of the playbook (both offensively and defensively) being intentionally unveiled late as it does with players perfecting their craft? I could be wrong, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were a number of plays used in the next few weeks we've never seen to this point.

I sure hope that's the case. My gut tells me they can be much better and they know this - There is absolutely no excuse for this offense to look so putrid when their core pieces along with the OC have been together for more than 6 years! This unit should be able to make plays with their eyes closed. I sure as heck hope they are trying to trick everybody! -
I've seen the bubble screen fake run a few times later in the year so I can see it being used again at some point. It's an idea I've postulated for a while now, but do you guys think that perhaps the reason the team always seems to really round into shape at the end of the season has just as much to do with parts of the playbook (both offensively and defensively) being intentionally unveiled late as it does with players perfecting their craft? However, I doubt we are sandbagging.. more than likely we just have an older QB who can't throw deep but continues to try and go vertical which leads to INT's or 3 and outs.
Also had some serious issues with penalties on positive plays early in the season that put us in 3rd and long.
look at the stat leaders on offense:
NFL Rushing leader: LeVeon Bell
NFL Receiving yards leader: Antonio Brown
NFL QB rankings: #9 Ben Roethlisberger
It's Ben. Dude is ok in between the 20's but he is downright pitiful in the RZ.
and also realize JuJu has 5 TD's as a rookie and MB has been a pain in the arse this year.
I still feel good about this team we just need to take care of the ball.Steelers 27

so we hid certain plays to save for later and in return we lost to a crappy bears team and underperformed and got lucky wins against several other bad teams?
i think tomlin is a moron, but i wouldnt even suggest he go along with this.steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clownComment

I think as the season goes along, new plays are added as a matter of course...sometimes, game plans can dictate a new wrinkle on either offense or defense...I don't think of it as "saving plays", though...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

I'm sure we will add new wrinkles into the offense as the season goes on. But that's the only "sandbagging" that would be going on. The poor play for the first 9 games has nothing to do with sandbagging.
-Haley's act is getting older and predictable
-Ben is not the Ben of 2008
-MB is a head case. A rusty head case.
-Rogers regressed
-Bell started out rusty, gained form and is now starting to look like we're wearing him out.
Thank goodness for AB and JuJu, the 2 brightest spots on offense. And thank goodness for a defense that hasn't allowed more than 23 points this season (I'm not counting Jax, where Ben gave the ball back 5 times).Comment

The times he had holes, did you see his classic burst? I didn't. He looked slower to me. And normally he can easily juke a line backer that's faced with tackling him one-on-one. It was an easy open field tackle against the Colts.
Maybe it was just my impression watching an offense that was not moving well most of the game. Hope I'm wrong.Comment

the thing with Bell tho is teams are scouting him and one thing they seemed to learn is show just as much patience as he does...
I saw a few LB's kind of stop and wait on him instead of running downhill towards him. One thing I didn't see was Nix. I can only watch condensed games so sometimes you barely get to see the formation but I don't remember seeing Nix as much as I did in other games where Bell had success.Steelers 27

I also noticed Bell couldn't juke anyone.
And I also noticed that he didn't seem to be able to get to the edge and turn upfield.
And I was thinking, "Man, he's lost that step, hasn't he ...". And I remember thinking that a couple of times in the last few games also.
Doesn't prove anything ... it's just some knee-jerk observations ...
We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

With our injuries to our back end of the defense, we can't afford to hold back on offense. IF that's what we are doing. Time to crank it up and rattle off some victories and be ready for week 15..........Patriots at Steelers.Comment

Nix was in on 9 of 66 offensive plays..... which is an absolute crime. Nix leading the way on run plays should be a staple. This offensive design is so easy I am surprised that any defense struggles against it, probably a credit to a few good skill players. Play-action with Bell would be deadly, and yet they rarely run it. End-arounds with MB for a guy that can be tackled with a stiff wind. Fuggetaboutit...on some plays I did.. others I didn't.

Last I checked Ben was somewhere around #24.I've seen the bubble screen fake run a few times later in the year so I can see it being used again at some point.
