Steelers Team Headlines: Is OC Todd Haley In Jeopardy Of Losing Job?

    http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2017/11/15/steelers-week-11-team-headlines/

Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley is starting to “feel the heat” as a result of a sputtering offense, according to reports.

Andrew Fillipiano of Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan said that Haley’s days calling plays for the Steelers could be numbered. The big issue with Haley is the team’s failure to get the ball in the end zone. The Steelers have moved the ball well all season, ranking in the top-10 of the league in total yards as well as passing yards, but they tend to get bogged down in the red zone.

Pittsburgh is 15th in the league with 1.6 red zone touchdowns a game, though the Steelers are converting just 42.42% of their chances into touchdowns, which has dropped to 30% over the last three games. Overall, the Steelers’ rank 19th in the league with 20.8 points a game, though they have scored just 18 touchdowns, which includes one special teams score. The Steelers offense has reached the end zone more than twice only once in their 10 games.

Points should not be a problem with veteran Ben Roethlisberger behind center and two of the best players in the league at their respective positions in Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown. There are two main explanations for their failures in the red zone: Play calling and penalties.

The Steelers have run approximately 80 red zone plays and they have almost a 50/50 split between run and pass plays. More troubling are the types of pass plays in certain situations in the red zone or the lack of creativity. The Steelers also have been flagged seven times in the red zone, and one of those flags cost them a touchdown.

Haley has been the Steelers’ offensive coordinator since 2012.

Can someone tell me plead why I should care what "Andrew Fillipiano of Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan" said?

In other words, is it established he has access to reliable insider information? Or is he just a master baiter of clicks for exposure ?

He hosts Ben's weekly radio show after every game.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Main problem is Ben and the OL.. I think both will improve but the RZ has always been an issue for Ben.

So Ben told him Haley is on the hot seat, is that what makes this guy a reliable source?

If so, that speaks very poorly of Ben.

I'd like to believe he wouldn't do that, that kind of leak wouldn't increase the team's chances of winning a SB, could even hurt their chances by taking their focus off the goal.

I don't care who says it or reports it. Haley has a long list of negative stuff said about him. You can ignore or tolerate it if he's making the offense go. But now that the offense isn't, I think it's time for a change.

Would the offense be any worse if Ben called 100% of the plays? We already have a playbook. And we have a QB coach who can step up as at least interim OC. I don't think Haley is doing us any good at this point.

If nothing else, Tomlin should make him go into the booth during games. Maybe he could spend less time screaming at people and see what's actually happening on the field.

All I know is I'm ready for a change. Change SOMETHING.

I looked at the 1-hr condensed game last night. It was amazing how many plays were bad because of players failure to execute. Unbelievable.

I watched it too. But isn't EVERY bad play a result of bad execution? Someone missed some assignment or lost concentration. When can you blame a bad play/execution on calling a predictable play or not the right play for your talent?

that's usually the case but it's more than that. Its about calling plays during the game that put players in the best position to execute. '

my biggest beef with Haely is the predictable 2nd and 8 run play and the substitutions that end in a TO being called.

I have no issue with AF of the Fan they are paid to push hot topic items. Execution issues to me are more the problem. Now some lack of execution would fall on Haley n he is accountable for that or lack of that. You hope the vet qb checks us into the better play. Just believe better overall play on O will come but I'm frustrated it isn't clicking better right now. Stretch drive is around the corner so our overall execution on O will need to be better to win against Pats n other playoff teams.

Yeah, he's gotta be quicker on the draw with those plays and substitutions...

I don't have a problem with sub packages in and of themselves...league wide, there is a whole lot of trend data over the last few years that suggests that multiple personnel groupings lead to increased scoring...

                        Just not for us...

The most damning statistic of all. C Wentz is putting up twice the number with half the talent around him. I know it's a dumb idea, but part of me wonders whether the backups could do any better?

Crazy to think of all of the talent on this team yet they miss out on 7 all the time. I'm losing confidence this team can win if they match a team in a shootout

Wentz is outplaying Ben. And Frank Reich is out coordinating Haley.

Otherwise, what other backups would you put in the game? AB is a beast. JuJu is playing like a seasoned vet. Nix & Bell are a great combo.
