    Injury Report vs. Indy

Steelers’ Injury Report: No guarantee injured starters return vs. the Colts

Mike Tomlin met with the media on Tuesday, and he was less than glowing regarding some of the starters’ availability this upcoming Sunday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off their bye-week, and are now preparing to play the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10 at Lucas Oil Stadium. As the team gets back to the practice field on Wednesday, head coach Mike Tomlin met with the media on Tuesday for his weekly press conference, and he addressed the injuries the team is facing coming off of the bye.

Tomlin spoke about how, during the bye-week, it was great to see Stephon Tuitt (back), Marcus Gilbert (hamstring) and Vance McDonald (knee) back in the loop in some fashion, and he’s hopeful to have them available on Sunday. But another starter is far less certain.

That starter is Mike Mitchell. It was reported, and confirmed on Tuesday by Tomlin that Mitchell suffered an Achilles tendon injury in the waning moments of the Week-8 game against the Detroit Lions, and there’s no way to tell if Mitchell could play Sunday in Indianapolis until the team starts practice on Wednesday.

Tomlin went on the tell how the team “shut down” Mitchell for the entire bye-week in hopes of allowing his injury to heal, and his availability won’t be gauged until the team gets back to practice Wednesday.

As always, Tomlin said practice will dictate players’ availability, and you can stay tuned to BTSC for the latest on the injury front as the team preps for the Colts.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Vontae Davis confirms groin injury still a problem

Posted by Josh Alper on November 8, 2017, 12:52 PM EST

When the Colts announced cornerback Vontae Davis didn’t make the trip to Houston to face the Texans last Sunday, they said the reason he stayed in Indianapolis was not related to injury.

PFT later reported that continued problems with the groin injury that forced Davis to miss games early in the season was actually the reason why he wouldn’t be in the lineup, although coach Chuck Pagano stuck to saying it was a “coach’s decision” when asked about Davis’ status after the game.

Davis spoke to reporters in Indy on Wednesday and, per multiple reports, confirmed that his groin injury is still causing problems on the field that led to Pagano’s decision to drop him down the depth chart. PFT has asked the league for comment on Davis not being listed on the injury report.

Bob Kravitz of WTHR reports that Davis is “very, very angry” about the situation with the team and that he asked the impending free agent about his future with the Colts.

    “Change is good,” Davis said.

Pagano said that he expects Davis in the lineup against the Steelers this week and Davis will practice on a limited basis, but indicated that he won’t play again until he feels he’s healthy.

            Colts cut Vontae Davis

Posted by Michael David Smith on November 9, 2017, 9:14 AM EST

Vontae Davis is done in Indianapolis.

The Colts announced today that they have released Davis, after a bizarre week in which he was made inactive with the team claiming it was not injury related while Davis said his groin injury continued to be a problem.

Davis will now go on waivers, where any team can claim him, although if the reports that he needs season-ending groin surgery are true, that may make teams decide there’s no reason to claim him.

Also important to any team considering claiming Davis is that he is in the final year of his four-year, $36 million contract, and his base salary this season is $9 million. It’s hard to believe any team would want to pick up the balance of that salary if Davis isn’t even healthy enough to play.

JJ Wilcox may get some reps if MM can't go. If we have a healthy Tuitt n Gilbert I'll take that trade off.

                    Week 10 Injury Report (Colts)

The Steelers used their bye week to get healthy, but there are still some players battling injuries.

The team will be without James Harrison when they take on the Colts on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium after he missed practice all week with a back injury. He has been officially ruled out.

Safety Mike Mitchell was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday with an Achilles injury suffered against the Lions, but was a full participant on Friday and is expected to play on Sunday.

There is a lot of good news, though. After what has seemed like an eternity, the Steelers offensive and defensive lines are once again whole.

Tuitt returned to practice this week, both full participants who are ready to go Sunday against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

"The hamstring feels good," said Gilbert. "It came at the right time. Unfortunately I had a setback, and the bye week was much needed. I took advantage of it. I went back home, got some treatment, saw my trainer, and I am feeling more confident."

Gilbert was inactive for the Bears, Ravens and Jaguars game, but returned to play against the Chiefs. He left the game early, though, a result of the hamstring bothering him. He missed the Bengals and Lions games after that.

"I never had a hamstring injury before," said Gilbert. "Dealing with it, I tried to rush myself back. I felt so good. I realized I wasn't good, I tweaked it again. I tried to come back again, I didn't handle it the right way.

"This isn't a big guy injury, this is a small man's injury. I got some advice from those guys and took the right steps to get myself back on the field."

It's been a frustrating season to date for Gilbert, who wants nothing more than to be on the field with his teammates.

"You have goals, personal goals and team goals, and you aren't able to complete them being on the sideline," said Gilbert. "The guys did a heck of a job. Chris Hubbard filled in at a high level. I just have to pick up where he left off."

He isn't alone in feeling that frustration. Tuitt suffered a biceps injury in the season-opener against Cleveland, then missed the next two games against Minnesota and Chicago. He returned for three games, but missed the Cincinnati and Detroit games with a back injury.

"I love to be on the field. I love to play," said Tuitt. "You know I love to play. I just wasn't able to go."

Tuitt said the back injury flared up a few weeks ago when he was working out, and the key was not rushing back and risking further damage.

"I am a hard worker. I work hard," said Tuitt. "I go so hard sometimes I have to calm down. I messed myself up working out.

"I wanted to get fully healed. I had a series of things that happened to me in the first few games. I didn't want to rush back and cause any more damage. At the end of the day I was healing really well, but we have the second half of the season and that is when they need me most. We took the time to heal the injury and come back strong like I did today."

Tuitt said he feels lucky his injury wasn't more serious than it was, and he can't wait to get back on the field on Sunday.

"I am blessed. If you watch what has been going on this season, a lot of people have been going down," said Tuitt. "Football is a physical game. I had a lot of snaps. It's bound to happen. You get hit sooner or later. I got hit early in the season. I overcame those. There was down time. My teammates helped me. I am back stronger than ever."

The Steelers also are getting back Vance McDonald, who missed the Lions game with a knee injury.

Here is the current injury report for the Steelers' Week 10 game at Indianapolis.
