    Mid Season Status

We are 6-2 and atop the AFC...despite the moronic belief that we have seen the first half of the season plagued by "bad coaching." But hey...some guys aren't happy unless they are unhappy.

News flash-our offense has not played well enough, especially a horribly ineffective QB, to overcome bad coaching. If anything we have been plagued by poor player execution.

I think that a 12-4 final record is very achieveable. If the offense, read Ben, can start to make some plays then this team is positioned for an excellent run.

    Thoughts????

Agreed. D has stepped up big time. O needs to follow suit to make a deep run.

I was saying essentially this in another thread. Things are lined up well for the Steelers. If Ben can ratchet his throws down just a bit, I think the offense can explode. Combine that with the way our defense has re-emerged and we can be the most dangerous team in the league. The play calling on sunday night put us in position to throw up 40 points. it was missed throws and drops that held us to 20. If they can clean that up - watch out!

I thought Ben was pretty good last game, he made a lot of good throws, should of had at least 3 TD's.

It also seems that even though we have a good record there are people that aren't happy unless they're complaining about people that aren't happy about the team.

I get that execution on the offensive side of the ball could be significantly better and some posters assert that it's our D that has bailed us out to get to the win total we are at now. If memory serves me correctly, that is how we won our last two Lombardis, and I am okay with that recipe.

Should we be blasting teams with un- godly totals because of all the talent we have on the offense? Absolutely... but here are my takes on the current O' woes-

Ben's confidence is shot- makes him throw ducks or hold onto the ball too long yielding picks and sacks respectively.

Missing Heath- No go-to short route that gets the tough catches, tough yards and 1st downs.

Lack of redzone production- whether by design thru the OC or audible change by Ben, what we do in the RZ is too often ineffective. (Doesn't help when drops by targets are common place).

We address these obviously glaring deficiencies, we will be dangerous come playoffs.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Agree with this. Anything less would mean the talent under-performing IMO.

It's been akin to watching previous successful years under Ben - If the defense can hold the opponent to 10-14 points, we might have a chance. It has been quite embarrassing to see our offense with all of its potential struggling to score points. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson can make chicken salad out of chicken scraps and put up 38-41 pts. respectively.

I said all of that to say - As excited as I am about the prospect of this team, mainly because of the defense, I can hardly stand to watch them play because of how putrid they are on offense. It rips my guts out watching how many TD's we leave out there on the field - thinking that if we just had a semblence of a functional offense most of these games wouldn't even be close!

Agree with most that performance is good and there is clearly room to improve. I know there are a few here who like to take shots at coach Tomlin n that's fine but kudos to the following coaches Munchak, John Mitchell, Carnell Lake, Richard Mann and backers coaches Olsavsky n Porter. We have brought in a bunch of young guys n they have produced. Hines too deserves some credit as he worked daily at camp with JuJu n it's obviously paying off. Since Tomlin is overseeing the show he gets credit as well.
Those Lake haters a few years back I hope they now realize how fortunate we are to have this guy on staff.
For the 2nd half I would like to see us on D go more man under and single high as we can get pressure with just 4. On O more play action on early downs even with Nix on the field. Keep them guessing. Too I would dial back some of Bell's work load to keep him fresh for a stretch run.

6-2 at the break with our early schedule doesnt merit any coaching statues being built, but the aggrieved posters here have to have something to whine about i suppose.

this is about where the steelers should be. and actually should be a game better. they used a crucial win at KC to springboard them to the bye. good on them, but thats what the expectations for this team had always been. to couch it as some great job of coaching is pretty moronic, but the adualtion some have with tomlin goes beyond the role of a head football coach. he has done an ok job this year when blessed with an extremely talented roster compared to the rest of the division/AFC. nothing more, nothing less

everyone had this team penciled in for a return to the AFCCG and they are on pace for that. hopefully the steelers continue their penchant for strong play in the 2nd half of the season. a 1st round bye and home playoff games are certainly within their reach
