"?" about our D, yes D: Is it a suprise to anyone that we can't stop the run?

A few games this year (today, Chicago) that we can't stop the run. I don't remember reading/hearing that was expected to be an issue, especially with Tuitt back in the lineup (we had all eleven starters in today).

    Anyone else?

(PS - this is a no end-of-the-world, sky is falling thread ... if you are inclined to post that way, please post in one of the many other threads of that nature that are available for you to choose from!).

I think one issue might be is that the Dline is asked to penetrate 1st. Sometimes that penetration seems to open up run lanes.

Stopping the run is all about the LBs in this defense and those LBs have been generally out of position, late to the ball, or missing tackles.

The defense, overall... is playing well enough to win. Roughly 60% of our salary is spent on Offense. Im not sure what folks expect.

I said losing Timmons was going to hurt. You don't ship the leader of your defense up the road in a "Win now" situation.

Our defense is loaded with high draft picks. Our DEs have combined contracts worth 100 mil.

90 of L.F's yards came on one run at the very end after the game had already been decided. The D played well enough to win. I am not sure why we are even talking about the Defense right now.

Slightly simplistic answer, since Timmons (I believe) was there when Jay Ajayi toasted us. I will say that I wanted Vince Williams in there, and he has been a non-factor out there as a run defender. I think Shazier needs to get moved to one side of the defense. Having him in the middle of the defense, given his gambling nature, leaves such a hit/miss guy right in the middle.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Slightly less simplistic answer... Timmons was also "In there" when our D was playing "Lights out" down the home stretch and into the playoffs. It was widely thought (and I concur) that Timmons played some of the best football in his career during that stretch.

I am asking the question because I was surprised to see them running down our throats when we knew that was exactly what they were planning.

We are talking about it because you posted in this thread .

I think the damage was already done prior to my posting...lol. and yea, that last run by L.F stunk... but the D still played well enough to win, and was dominant at times. Pass defense is very solid at this point in the year.... which was one of our HUGE ?????? coming into the year.

At the beginning of the 4th qrtr, if we'd stopped them we had time to come back and win. But we couldn't stop their running it down our throat, time after time. Powerless, and then they drove all the way down the field.

I was just thinking our run D was better than that. It's what Chicago did to us also, isn't it?

Yea. Did we hold them under 30 though? I thought this offense was going to average 30+ this year...blindfolded lol

Good point. But this is a thread about the defense, not the offense!
