    Tackling is overrated

This team is in total disarray, the bears are the only ones stopping themselves.

They were overly focused on tackling political and social issues in the locker room and forgot all about what footbsll skills they were getting paid for.

      This.

I've come to realize, after these many years... after saying to myself (e.g. after we return Martavis and are poised to become a great offense, etc.) that this year will be different...

I've come to realize that this Tomlin/Ben team is what they always have been. This performance is reminiscent of the Jay Ajayi game last year, when we made that man a rich man in one game. It is reminiscent of Arian Foster just prancing through our D with impunity a few years back. In the end, the team will look brilliant at times, faking fans into thinking something is there. The team will end up 10-6 or something relative. And in the end, the season will come to a close, likely in NE* by something like a 13-30 score.

When the Bears received the kickoff, as any observant Steeler fan, I was waiting for a l-o-n-g, easy TD run where it seemed as if the D had just peter'd out. The Tebow game is a prime example of that. No fight or resistance, no chance for the team to justify its political gesture at the beginning of the game. Winning this game would have added a lot of weight, and possibly sparked the team to something greater this year. But no... same old (10-6) Steelers, it seems to me.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

I would be inclined to agree... and am getting sick of the commentators whining about this political crap...

What political gesture? Going out on the field would have been a political gesture....people want athletes to shut up and play...the Steelers did that, and people are still mad...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

At least one analysis of the PIT-CHI game is suggesting the DBs were the culprit. In fact, are Burns and Davis really up to the task of charging into gaps and of tackling big bruising RBs? Also, the ILBs were either not gap sound or the defensive scheme was flawed from the start, putting players in a position to fail.

Shazier comes in so fast and out of control that he doesnt even scratch the runner.
Vince was run fitting in the wrong hole on almost every play.
Mitchell is usually so far back and his angles are so bad that he's diving at feet.
A little more discipline should help their tackling woes.

It is not just the safeties but CB's offering nothing in tackling RB's at least yesterday. And the ILB's had issues also with there lanes and for one lack of speed to recover. And I think some of the schemes were a problem. Another couple things I seen was the Dline looked to be crushing the Oline but that seemed to me left cut backs open and other players out of position. Also at least one of the safeties were out of position and does not have the recovery speed to get there to make a sure tackle. That was part scheme maybe? That part I do not know. Bad day for every Steeler one way or another. Hope they get to work this week and put it to the ratbirds.

Im tiring fast of Butlers big Nickel defense.
Hargrave had only 38 snaps yesterday.
                    Harrison had 3.

Not that this has much to do with the secondary, but are we really supposed to just assume that TJ and Tuitt's absence had no impact on the defense's effectiveness? From all I can tell, this is the only "bad" game they've had this season and against possibly the worst opponent we've played.

How many snaps can Hargreave last? I think he was part of the problem yesterday. On many running plays he and the Dline was a yard or more into the back field and that left a lane open to run through. Now JH could maybe have helped some on a rotation. I must be the only one to remember him on the side line in the playoffs just looking gassed. I want him fresh for the late part of the season. Watt already is injured and that could linger. He could hit the rookie wall. Chick is a back up and has had a lot of snaps already for him. How many can he handle before his average play drops?

I don't think Hargrave had much to do with it, it was more on our linebackers having poor gap discipline, poor tackling, and an inability to set the edge.

man, I'm not buying the JH theory. If he is too old to take a few snaps to help us win a game what is the point?
