Steelers' Ryan Shazier says he was fined $25K for Kizer hit

    1:51 PM ET

    ESPN Staff Writer

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier told ESPN that the NFL has fined him $25,000 for his hit on Cleveland Browns quarterback DeShone Kizer.

    He plans to appeal.

A hit on a defenseless player warrants a $24,309 fine, according to the NFL's list of fines and appeals.

Shazier said he didn't know the Browns quarterback was going to slide when he hit him in the first half last week. Shazier caught Kizer on the way down, prompting a 15-yard penalty.

"I didn't see him slide much on film," Shazier said about the play. "I wasn't expecting him to slide. I was just going in there to make a tackle like I do any tackle. It's just part of the game. Sometimes they get you for those things."

Shazier finished with seven tackles for a defense that sacked Kizer seven times in a 21-18 win. The Steelers are preparing for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Ben Roethlisberger not fined for shot at Emmanuel Ogbah’s ankle

Ordinarily, when we ask the NFL if players were fined for actions on Sunday, we’re asking about defensive players getting fined for hits on quarterbacks. But this week we wanted to know if Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was fined for a shot he took at Browns defensive lineman Emmanuel Ogbah’s ankle.

Roethlisberger wasn’t fined, the NFL confirmed to PFT.

Some Browns fans thought he should have been. After Roethlisberger threw an interception on Sunday, Ogbah blocked him to the ground. Roethlisberger responded by lunging at Ogbah’s ankle, grabbing the ankle and taking Ogbah down.

It was a funny-looking maneuver that you don’t see on the football field very often, and a play that some saw as a dirty move. The NFL apparently didn’t have a problem with it.

Ben has been known to throw a few downfield blocks too.

Can you imagine Marcia Brady** or Payton Manning doing either of those things? Ha!

NFL fines Bud Dupree for “sexually suggestive” celebration

Too many hip thrusts cost Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree.

The NFL fined Dupree $12,154 for a “sexually suggestive” celebration of a sack on Sunday. Dupree thrust his hips several times after sacking Vikings quarterback Case Keenum.

Although the league has eased off on celebration fines, anything suggesting sex or violence can still result in a player’s paycheck getting docked. The celebration also could have yielded a 15-yard penalty, but the officials didn’t see it.
