We came up to pick in round 2, the following corners were available to us: Ahkello Witherspoon, Fabian Moreau, Shaquill Griffin, Jourdan Lewis, Cam Sutton, Cordrea Tankersley, Rasul Douglas, etc.

Meanwhile the following wideouts were available at that point: Juju Smith-Schuster, Cooper Kupp, Taywan Taylor, ArDarius Stewart, Carlos Henderson, Chris Godwin, Kenny Golladay, Chad Williams, Amara Darboh, etc.

Perhaps they looked at those two lists and determined that they had very similar rankings among those available corners, and if they waited until round 3 to grab one of them, they would get a very similar player to the one they would have picked in round 2. However, maybe they also thought that Juju was significantly better than the other guys on that list...the one guy still available who could potentially start opposite AB if Bryant's reinstatement hits a snag and Coates' issues holding onto the ball still aren't rectified after his broken fingers are fully healed.

If the team wants to draft both a CB and a WR on day two of the draft, isn't it objectively better to be able to get a top 5 WR in the draft and then the 15th CB off the board than to blindly attempt to always fill the bigger need first and end up with the 11th or 12th best player at each position?
Ruthless, I actually AGREE with you about the available corners. You keep going back to this and I keep explaining my desire.

My pov has always been we EASILY could have moved up to pick up Awuzie who was drafted TWO SPOTS ahead of us. Nearly every list rated him equal or HIGHER than Juju and he was in fact drafted before Juju. The projected drop off after Awuzie was huge. Awuzie was the last of a very deep top tier of corner back talent. It was rated a relatively weak draft for recceivers.

Therefore, the issue is not whether the available corners were worthy picks.

The issue is whether we like the last of the top tier of corners over a long snapper or number 3 QB.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

...and Awuzie has done what exactly in the NFL. Absolutely no evidence that he would have been a better pick than JuJu or that he will long term be better than Sutton...or Brian Allen for that matter. Not sure what "every list" you have access to (clearly not on the Steelers draft board), but I think we got the players we wanted and I'm happy to roll with them this season.

The issue is whether we liked the "last of the top tier of corners" over a long snapper or 3 QB and Smith-Schuster...it is an additional draft pick and therefore an additional player...if Awuzie was rated equal to Smith-Schuster and was taken 2 spots before, then the Steelers received appropriate value for that pick...which, as I've stated, is the goal of the draft...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.
