Again, draft for value, not need. When the two dovetail like TJ Watt, it's great! But, again, at the time of the draft, our WR depth was not what it is now...Bryant had just been "conditionally" reinstated...Sammie Coates, who had disappeared last season was coming of broken fingers...DHB was injured...the only WR on the roster who had done anything in the playoffs was named Antonio Brown...
On the other hand, the Steelers spent their top two draft picks last year on CB and S...they kept Cockrell, who started games for them and performed well...they signed Coty Sensabaugh who had performed well in a defense like ours...I think the Steelers simply didn't think that DB was necessarily a greater need than WR at that point in time...personally, I hope they all do well and drive each other to be better...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

...and given who was on the board in the second round we didn't need to draft a DB. As a value pick we got a much better player in JuJu than any DB we would have picked.Again, draft for value, not need. When the two dovetail like TJ Watt, it's great! Nope! That was me who agreed to that...though it was, like, two seasons ago...I thought the statute of limitations had passed...Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.Comment

But Ovi the value in the secondary ran out just before our pick.
Why no move up to shore up the WEAKEST UNIT ON THIS TEAM, as a priority? What would it take to move TWO SPOTS?
You AND Dizz showed in you mock that you KNOW secondary needed to be a priority. Obi AND especially Awuzie were accessible via trade.
Everybody agreed this was GREAT value in the secondary and the run showed it. Awuzie was the last of that run and the corner hungry Cowboys were just TWO SPOTS AHEAD OF US.
As I keep saying imagine if we just sat pat when Troy was there in 2003?sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Neither of those guys is Troy...perhaps if they were, a move would have been in order...But Ovi the value in the secondary ran out just before our pick.

Yet be honest........ nobody on this board would have been happier than YOU if we traded up for Awuzie who you had in the first.
Just because the team sat pat does not mean you were wrong.
Dont forget he WAS drafted before Juju, we might have well taken him. The issue is whether he was worth trading up for. Considering we still drafted corners who were NOT second round values says we COULD have moved up.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 06-12-2017, 09:25 AM.sigpic

dude, this was my first mock. Of course I would have did the "I got the pick right" bragging but I wasn't married to Awuzie. I also had the ILB from Alabama in the first as an option.Yet be honest........ nobody on this board would have been happier than YOU if we traded up for Awuzie who you had in the first.

I don't take this mock stuff nearly as seriously as others on here.
Like I said previously, obviously WE didn't think he was that special because we didn't jump up to get him.Steelers 27

When we were 6 picks away from our 2nd round pick, I was incredibly excited, because Zach Cunningham, Obi Melifonwu, Chidobe Awuzie, and Josh Jones were all still on the board. I wanted the team to trade up badly...especially for Zach or Obi (who play two positions that we didn't draft at all, so it shows what I know). But I understand the team waiting it out, because it still seemed awfully likely at that point that one of those guys fall right into our laps and we get to keep all of our valuable picks in a deep draft.
When Oakland and Houston grabbed Obi and Zach back to back, I was crushed. But then Seattle took Ethan Pocic, who I had no interest in, so I rejoiced. K.C. nabbed Tanoh Kpassagnon, who certainly intrigued me, but not in round 2, so I was still happy. Dallas and Green Bay taking Awuzie and Jones back to back was a gut punch.
I was worried about both of those teams (GB and DAL) potentially taking Watt ahead of us in round 1, but when the Cowboys opted for Taco Charlton instead, and the Packers traded back for Cleveland's picks atop day two and day three, it all worked out in round one...but unfortunately the cards didn't fall for us the same way in round 2.
Looking back on it now, would obtaining Zach Cunningham or Obi Melifonwu be worth more than getting Juju Smith-Schuster AND James Conner? Would obtaining Chidobe Awuzie or Josh Jones be worth more than getting Juju Smith -Schuster AND Brian Allen? It will be interesting to find out.
My personal preference was to be aggressive and get one of these guys, but the team opted for patience in this instance and let the board fall to them. Ultimately, I trust the judgment of the guys who run our front office to make the best decisions for this team. I may be a Steeler nut job and a bit of a draft junkie, but I acknowledge that they know way more than me, so I'll accept the picks we got, and will be cheering them on 100% now that they are officially Pittsburgh Steelers.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.Comment
