Funny thing is IT WORKED. Here we are discussing SI, something we rarely do. Multiply that by all the football boards out there and plenty of "traffic" being sent their way.
I dont see anyone getting bent out of shape. I do people discussing ANYTHING Steeler related trying to get their offseason Steeler fix.
    Trolls are people too.

I think their hope is for Dobbs to be that guy. It's unlikely at best... but I guess we will see.

My guess is, Ben's replacement (after retirement) is not on the roster yet.

We won't know until he has a chance to adjust to the pro game...in the modern NFL, successful later round QBs are not totally unheard of (Tony Romo, Tom Brady) but are extremely uncommon...

He has NFL physical tools, leadership qualities, and brains to spare...that's about as good as you can hope for in a 4th round pick...some people are late bloomers...Brady couldn't even start over Brian Griese at Michigan...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

To follow up here, he unlike many players was a REAL student in college, focused on his schooling perhaps to the detriment of his game. I wonder about how much of his unusually high academic focus left for him to truly focus on the nuances of his craft as a QB?

If he focused his truly massive noggin on football for a couple of years as a backup we might have something.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

              TCFCLTC-
The Coach Formerly Considered Less Than Cowher

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think Jones is as bad as he is made out to be. When he gets in the preseason games he with the 3rd and 4th stringers. The Cincinnati game the weather was terrible at best. No, he'll never be a starter for the Steelers, but he is a capable back-up.
Help me find my post proving I am a Yinzer!

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

I've been defending Jones for a while.

When you look at the stats and the teams he lost to it's pretty obvious Jones is a capable BACKUP.

"Landry Jones was re-signed for a reason, and the Steelers trust him if something happens to Ben Roethlisberger. Love him, few of you, or hate him, many of you, Landry Jones is sticking around as QB2, at least for this season. "

The existence of Jones and now Dobbs to me is strong evidence that the Steeler brass isn't really serious about winning championships any more.

Unlike those other teams who have backup QBs capable of leading their teams to championships.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

You don't win championships without a Hofer back up QB!

I lead a small team of engineers with PhDs. Book smart is one thing, street smarts another. They are all capable of learning, but it takes time to learn things that aren't written in a book and be truly productive. I don't know if this analogy holds up for a football player, but seems reasonable to think so.

Or a HOF backup wide receiver.

I'm not a huge fan of Landry Jones, but he should be higher on that list than he is. I'd certainly take him over guys like Mallet, Bryce Petty/Hackenberg, etc.

I think the "best" backups are the fringe starter types - Bryan Hoyer, Nick Foles and a few others of that caliber.
