Brady Quinn was talking today on Sirius about the ILB positition not being as important as it once was. Lot's of teams are using safeties now with all the 3 WR sets they're seeing on a weekly basis.
great, so now we are ok at ilb but lacking safeties.....lol

Timmons puked in that game - literally and figuratively - and VW also had a rough afternoon. They started, and Matakevich played late after somebody got hurt. He made 8 tackles or so in just over a quarter. He's not the most athletic, but he got great instincts and anticipation. I like him as a backup. I'd like to see him complimented with somebody who is more of a coverage inside lb.
As for Vince Williams, I actually seem him closer to an Earl Holmes type. A big hitter - not quite to the level of Holmes, but also a bit better than Holmes in coverage.
Sorry... I didn't have my stat sheet in front of me when I posted that... I stand corrected. I remember him making a few plays... but getting abused also... of course to his defense...the whole unit was garbage that game.
Don't forget Matakevich. His instincts are all-pro. I think he will get his share of playing time. Williams and Johnson may be more physical, but Matakevich has the possibility of becoming a good player this year.
