    So I'm wandering around Heinz...

...Field last night looking for a couple of groups of people, trying to find a tailgate party
or two, an old man walks past me and my buddy says, "hey look, it's Dan."

Thinking it's a friend of his who has season tickets I say, "aren't you going to stop and
say hello?" My buddy says, "no, that was Dan Rooney that just walked by us."

I turn around and sure enough, it was Dan Rooney walking towards Heinz.

Oh, and props to SN1 letting me join him in The Nation.

    SN1 is good people.

Cool stuff, jiga! I ran into Chuck Noll outside Three Rivers once. I think I was in high school at the time. Got to shake the Emporer's hand.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Not so quick story about Dan Rooney.

I stood out in line for tickets to the 94 playoffs (the year we lost the San Diego in the AFCC) Anyway, two things stood out in my memory.

      1. The first night, while we were outside of TRS property in a line over by the Clark Bar and Grill, Kevin Green showed up with his red pickup truck filled to the brim with boxes of Pizza and just handed it out to everyone who wanted it.
      2. The night that we were organized in a line around TRS, Dan Rooney came out with the people who had the hot choclate/coffee cart. He went around the entire line, and shook hands with every single person in line that night. It was cold, we already appreciate that family, we already knew the Rooneys footed the bill for the coffee . . . Dan Rooney didn't have to do what he did. Dan Rooney could have just rushed through the line saying his hellos and goodbyes. HE SHOOK EVERY HAND, from the sleep-deprived to the raging drunks. HE SHOOK EVERY HAND. There had to be 1,000 people in that line, many of which never got tickets to the games. HE SHOOK EVERY HAND. And not only that, but he really did talk to whomever wanted to talk. True, many of us just said our thanks yous, and go steelers and nice to meet you. BUT HE SHOOK EVERY HAND and talked for as longt as you wanted him to.
So when some on here trash this family for being thrifty and question whether they will be able to keep up financially with the recent sale, I'm never ever going to bash them, because I know in a day and age where character is sorely lacking in this business, Dan and his father had enough for everyone.

Nice. I saw Franco tailgating with some random people in the parking lot before the Patriots AFCC game. Just shakin hands and digging into a pork sandwich, it was hilarious.

Quick question, did Dan Rooney SHAKE EVERY HAND?
          Definately a cool story.

Cool! You've all already seen the photographic evidence of my encounter with Swannie at Heinz back in the first year it opened. I believe Asian Steel was there dressed up in Raven gear for some reason.

SN1's tickets say that he is supposed to sit way the heck up by me in the upper deck north end zone bleachers. He's just never been up there before. He stands in the South Plaza every game instead. Hopefully the team does not start assigning specific standing room only spots like the Pens do.

I have a feeling within the next couple yrs they're going to close off that end of the stadium. That would suck for me, but if it got me my own season tix, I'd be all for it

When we were in town for the Raven's Monday night game earlier this year, we were driving around Heinz Sunday night and saw a bunch of people in formal wear - tuxedos and evening gowns. So we see this guy get out of a black Cadillac SUV (not the Escalade, the smaller one) and move some traffic cones right in front of the stadium. He gets back in the truck and parks. It was Art Rooney II. Not a huge deal, but still pretty cool. Then we hit Primantis!
