    Calm Mock

The official visits are done yet, but I wanted to go ahead and throw one together. I will do a final before the draft as well.

    1 TJ Watt, LB, Wisconsin
2 Derek Rivers, LB, Youngstown State
    3 Rasul Douglas, CB, WVU
    3 Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson
    4 Samaje Perine, RB, OU
    5 Ryan Switzer, WR, UNC
    6 Josh Dobbs, QB, Tenn
7 Isaac Rochell, DE, Notre Dame

Looking over our official visits so far and how that trends going back to past years it looks like we will be drafting at least 1 LB (probably 2) and at least 1 CB, 1 S and 1 WR. We will most likely see a QB as well with 2 visiting on the official list 1 local and 1 rumored still. The official visits don't show us taking a RB at all, but all the pro day visits and combine visits have been with mid round Running Backs.

With all of that said we could easily take a Safety in the first if someone we want is sitting there. My thoughts are we take LB and Safety in the first 2 rounds. Any combination. CB, TE, RB in the 3rd-4th round and after that we look at a QB to battle with Mettenburger. Our normal developmental DE or LB and a WR. So this mock might not reflect the people that we select, but I think it does represent the positions. I did leave a Safety off this one, but will most likely change in my final mock.

I like Watt and Perine. Legett is an underachiever with questionable work ethic. I would pass on that one. Rivers isn't a bad choice but I personally think he is a third round talent.
    Trolls are people too.

I could easily see it being a Safety. Just depends on how it falls and how they have it graded. The Safeties they have visited with so far that have the first round grade are:
        Malik Hooker (Gone)
        Jabrill Peppers (Possible/most likely Gone)
        Jamal Adams (Gone)
        Obi Melifonwu (Most Likely)

I could agree with both of those assessments. The mock is based off of the visits directly, not the talent. I am not an expert at talent evaluations. I am better at numbers and tracking though, so it is more of mock based off of facts, not assessment, which can be based in opinions. It is of course not going to go this way, just a fun thing to do.

Among the official visits to our facility, the only guys with a first round designation so far (other than QB Mahomes 1-2) are all linebackers. Outside backer Takk McKinley (1-2), inside backer Jarrad Davis (1-2), and the only name on that list with a solid first round grade as opposed to the borderline late 1st, early 2nd round designation, is my guy, inside backer Zach Cunningham (1). Although you swapped his school with Carroll Phillips's school below him.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Id be happy with that draft. Watt is going to be a beast just like his brother. If we pass on him itll make sick.

Feels like a bit of overkill if both of the first 2 guys are edge rushers - give me an ILB with one of those picks and I'd just love the rest. Rochell is a big sleeper IMO. Love Leggett. Perrine in the 4th is good value.

Make it Watt and McMillen or Cunningham (who seems to be rated borderline 1st these days) and Rivers and I'd be all in on this.

We are going to have options when we pick. We are going to have at least two to three guys that we didn't think would make it to us, fall to us. It's going to be exciting.

Maybe it's just like Timmons and Woodley back in Tomlin's first draft. Looked like we drafted Timmons in round 1 to be our OLB, until we were also able to get Woodley in round 2 to be OLB, then moved Timmons inside to ILB instead. In this particular case, it looked like we drafted Watt in round 1 to be our OLB, until we were also able to get Rivers in round 2 to be OLB, then moved Watt inside to ILB instead. A LB corps of Dupree, Watt, Shazier, and Rivers would be awfully formidable going forward, you must admit.

i hear ya. and assuming watt could make the transition, sure. i've been calling for a repeat of tomlin's first draft - (ILB, OLB)... to YOUR point, I had forgotten that for a short while, we did consider timmons an OLB... great catch

With the addition of the 3rd round compensatory pick, and the fact we are thin at linebacker, I think they take two linebackers in the first 4 picks. They have the luxury to do that and still address all the other needs in the draft. Two stud guys to go with Dupree and Shazier, that's sounding good to me.

agreed. again, i've been saying the same. and if the right guys are there, i think they will. but, i don't think they reach.

OLB, ILB, S, TE, CB, RB and WR are all in play with those picks. Probably with sense of urgency roughly in that order.

But I think the right guys will be there. Because (forget what the experts are saying) I think there will be a lot more runningbacks and QB's taken in the first round then people think. I really do.
