This sounds made up. Did they require this before he was reinstated? I doubt it.

The NFL has a physician who heads addiction oversight for the NFL. It's actually my dream job. From my understanding, he is old school, no nonsense, 12 step based which IMO is a great thing. Bryant had to meet with him and the physician gives Goodell his impression. If what is being said is true, then it's not good on any level. It means he met with the physician and wasn't able to verbalize any sort of plan to stay sober. I see it all the time. "I have lots of people who will love me who will help me" "I plan on working hard at work" "Im going to stay busy" "Im going to keep my nose clean" "im going to make better choices"...all these things I hear and it lets me know the person sitting across from me doesn't get it on any level. I suspect that's where Bryant is. Sounds like Bryant may need a second interview after being "groomed" into what to say. Not good.

A long way from being "reinstated this week". This thread should be deleted.

No, it's just another instance of Goodell making sh!t up as he goes along. Of the DOZENS of players who have been suspended for the exact same thing, have you ever heard of a requirement for a "relapse prevention plan" before they could be reinstated? Yeah, me neither.

And of course it comes two weeks before the draft.

Great point. I can see how that might affect his reinstatement.
To me, I do have one point I'd like to clarification on: Is Martavis suspension strictly on marijuana? It makes a difference, because I think it would be hard for someone to show contrition and talk about changing your lifestyle, if you really don't feel you're doing anything wrong. Yes, it is against the league rules, but on some level, I'm guessing (I don't smoke weed) maybe it would be hard to talk about steps toward changing one's life when you don't feel a change makes you any better of a person, if that makes sense.

I'm just spit-balling here. Like, if someone told you to stop eating broccoli: "It is against the rules to eat broccoli." I imagine it difficult for you to pretend to devise steps to avoid broccoli, and talk badly about broccoli, if you like broccoli and don't think there's anything wrong with broccoli and everyone else around you is eating broccoli.

Of course, it is moot if Bryant is involved in more than broccoli...
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Want a "relapse prevention plan"? Here's one:

"Fukk up one more time and your NFL career is over."

If that isn't enough motivation to put the bong down, then seeing some counselor once or twice a week to be fed psychobabble more than likely won't be either.

this has nothing to do with Goodell. This happens to do with every player needed reinstated has an interview with the NFL addiction doc. Part of that assessment is a relapse prevention plan. It's sobriety 101, not a manifestation of Goodell.

I think people get caught up in the substance rather than the behavior. If you are willing to quit football and give up millions to smoke weed, it's a problem. If you can't put it down to keep your job, it's a problem. I don't demonize marijuana but for some people is it's certainly addictive and causes them to make poor life choices.

it's enough motivation for most people. Obviously not for Bryant.

                        It's called " addiction" for a reason.

Indeed. Despite the fact that MJ is seen by many as completely benign, people do get addicted to it.

great point. i dont think it has been stated what substance he is abusing. might be a combination of things. i would guess weed and PEDS based on his agent saying he put on all this 'muscle' recently
