    quick off season thoughts

Here are some quick thought in FA and leading up the draft

    Cornerbacks:

I was one probably one of the few on here, who was pimping us to sign a vet CB to fill, but as we keep stricking out , I think we are better off... This draft is soo deep for DB.

Just lookat last year's Atlanta D. They were young! I think that had 2/3 rookies in their backfield. And the had a few rising stars in their front 7 like we do.

We should resign Cockrell, ( cheap and short term ), and draft 2-3 DB in the first 3 rounds.

Burns, Cockrell/Rookie on the outside. Golsein if healthy, or key could be Davis, who played slot CB for half the year. I liked Dangerfield, he can slid into S in passing downs if we go that route, add in a Rookie S. ( OBI name keeps on beig linked to us)

    ILB

No news here, we lost Timmons, I think our FO knew, and that is why signed VW.
With VW now penciled in as starter, we have no depth and no true competion to push him.

This is where we need to spend in FA, the draft isnt as strong in ILB. And dolloar for dollar might have more value in an FA ILB than CB. example Hightower vs Gillmore

Pipe dream we sign Hightower and have one of the best, youngest ILB core in NFL ( at least next 5 years)

But keep reading great things for Z. Brown and Hedges... either sounds like great compensation if we miss out on Hightower.
Between one of those FA competing with VW we should have a "good ILB" core with some depth. And no panic in draft looking for an ILB.

    WR

I think we shoud look in FA on the cheap for maybe a vet WR. We still have a lot of youth in our WR core, we all know they can succed when given a chance, but the thing is are their problems behind them? (Bryant suspention and Coats health fingers) I think there is no way, one of the two don't contribute next year and future years.

If we sign a vet, we have "no need" to spend a pick in the draft. We can solely focus on D

    RB
There still hasn't been movement in FA, lets see what unfolds, I think the same like WR, but then again this is a deep draft here too, I think we can find a good RB in round 4-5.

In the draft I want first 4 picks all on D... 2 in DB, and 2 in the front 7.

Old man Harrison, and his heir in the Draft ( Rivers, Watt, Harris), only depth there A. Chick ( spelling) JJ is gone, Moats is suppose to be a cap casualty, but might be still on board.

we need have taken steps back at ilb, edge and at least 2 cbs.
cant go into the season thinking rookies will be the answer.
even if they pay off towards the end of the year, more than likely HFA is long gone, as are our chances to beat NE.
at some point you have to fill an opening with a quality FA starter, in our case, more likely 2.
steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clown

I agree, I think I covered our season starters without the draft, and hopefully with the rookies to follow suit like last year. But like Atlanta, there D jumped leaps and bounds last year even being so young! ( maybe a bad example, they had the worst comeback in superbowl history!!!)

DKPittsburghSports.com reports Steelers restricted free agent CB Ross Cockrell is drawing "plenty" of interest.
Reporter Mark Kaboly doesn't name any teams. Cockrell was somewhat surprisingly tendered at the original-round level, which is the fourth round in this instance. Teams might view that as a reasonable price for a player who has emerged as a decent No. 1 corner over the past two seasons. It's possible the Steelers are prepared to match any offer Cockrell receives on the open market.

Colbert/Tomlin must feel comfortable going into the season with Cockrell as our # 1 cornerback.
