#Steelers have been in on several CBs, including Dre Kirkpatrick, Logan Ryan. Ryan looks more likely with Stephon Gilmore going to #Patriots

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Ryan has consistently ranked as a good, but not elite corner (#15-16 last two years, per PFF, for what that is worth). If he'd want money commensurate with that ability, I'd be ok with that. But if he's looking for elite money, I wouldn't go crazy.

I'd prefer Ryan over Kirkpatrick mostly because I don't think highly of Kirkpatrick at all.

There's some solid interest between Logan Ryan and the Steelers, per sources

Gilmore is better than Logan and Kilpatrick. If the *s have signed Gilmore, then they've beaten the Steelers once again IMO, this time in free agency.

              .

I agree that Stephon Gilmore is better than Logan Ryan and Dre Kirkpatrick, but Gilmore is reported getting a whopping $14 million per year from the Patriots (contract specifics won't come out until after deals are allowed to be officially signed at 4:00 this afternoon). We'll have to see the details of what each of these guys get before projecting who may have gotten the best deal.

Interesting, though, that it's being reported that after signing Gilmore, NE is considering trading CB Malcolm Butler to NO for Brandin Cooks. We'll see what happens.

Gilmore is considerably better than Ryan, and Belicheat's move shows it. Ryan routinely covered other teams' #2 and #3 receivers, while Gilmore usually covered #1 receiver. Belicheat jettisoned Ryan, who he could have kept for less than $10M/year, in favor of Gilmore, for whom he'll have to spend $14M/year. If the Steelers wind up with Ryan, it will be a case of "big brother gets the steak, little brother gets the leftovers."

But hey, if your goal is merely to win the AFC North, the leftovers may be good enough.

The Pats* would often put Ryan on the #1 with safety help, and use Butler to cover the #2 by himself.

I liked Gilmore a lot coming out of school. I've read that he could getting in excess of $14 million / year. So the question becomes would you rather have Gilmore or Ryan +$6 million or so per year, which allows you some flexibility to add somewhere elsewhere.

Fowler also reporting that the Steelers are no longer interested in Kirkpatrick, who is looking at a contract in excess of $10 million per year. Way too much for him.

I don't agree with the idea that not getting an elite UFA CB means we can't beat the Pats.

I think that the way to beat the Pats is to have many good / not great players in the secondary. They spread us out wide with many good / not great receivers. If we pay top dollar for top end talent, then the cap dictates that our lower end guys in the secondary suck. So, we can dramatically over-match one (or two) of their WRs and they torch us with their 3-5 WRs...like a certain former lacrosse player.

No..I mean beat us in the overall sense of upgrading their team.

I was only saying that the Pats are beating the Steelers in free agency, and the Steelers are going to have to figure out how to catch up. I didn't mean that it is impossible to beat them on the field, but because of the moves they are making, that's looking more and more improbable.
