Lolley: Coates' Fingers "Mangled Like a Lineman"

    http://www.steelersdepot.com/2017/02/lolley-sammie-coates-fingers-mangled-like-lineman/

Raises the spectre that the Steelers may have screwed up big time by not having Sammie's fingers taken care of sooner. Some of us questioned the wisdom of playing him on ST's with broken fingers ... there's some indication that those concerns may have been valid.

Wouldn't be surprised if Coates is finished with the Steelers.

If you were searching for some optimism about third-year wide receiver Sammie Coates heading into the 2017 season, beat writer Dale Lolley provided a cold

Something sounds a little crooked here ...

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

For what it's worth, borderline HoF WR Torrey Holt has horridly mangled fingers.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

You might be able to get by with mangled fingers if you're a borderline HoF receiver ... it's a lot less likely if you're merely a borderline NFL receiver.

so from week 5, until the end of the season, not 1 reporter noticed coates fingers "mangled".
no fans, family, team mates, agent, coach, team doctor or front office person noticed his fingers 'mangled like a lineman' and thought, 'wow, maybe that might affect his ability to perform on the field'?
i'd be bent if i were coates

Comments here imply that his fingers are now fixed, or at least are being fixed.

When I read the article, I thought that it said the opposite (i.e. his fingers are still mangled and there are no plans to do anything about it).

I think you're correct ... the article did say that his fingers are still mangled and I couldn't find any indication that there are any plans to do anything about it. Sorry if my original post was confusing.

Coates is a "body catcher" anyway so what's the big deal

The "body catcher" had 20 receptions for 421 yards (21 yard avg.) and 2 TDs in the first 5 games, before he hurt his fingers. After the injury, he had 2 catches for 14 yards through the remaining games. I'd say it was kind of a big deal.

Pretty sure Coates had surgery recently.

I would imagine his hands don't look good at all. Probably still swollen from the surgery, etc.

Strange how Coates said the surgery went well..

He may be a body catcher, but he is a hands dropper. Was before the injury, and more so afterwards.

His wife is a Pitt med student - I would imagine she would be concerned if his hands were mangled

he also had a 30+ % drop rate before the finger incident
