Agreed. Either Willis or Rivers is apt to be available when the Steelers use their second pick, and I can't see that either is that much of a dropoff from any of the OLBs who will likely be available at the end of round 1.

The way this draft lays out & the needs the Steelers have....

The Steelers pick at 30 will be BPA Who aren't an OL, DL, or ST.

If an OLB or CB is not graded close to a player sitting there not at a position above...You won't be getting you OLB OR CB.

Since the last 4 1st have been defensive & last 5 out of 6...I think the offensive side of the ball is banging the table if an offensive weapon is there graded out higher than any defensive player. So if that scenario develops...Many won't be happy...But I see them having no problem pulling the trigger on an offensive skill player.

I think this is where need trumps BPA unless there is nothing at all on defense that grades out at 30.

          .
If a real offensive weapon like Christian McCaffrey, Mike Williams, or David Njoku surprisingly falls, I could see that...otherwise, it's probably a DB or LB.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Bingo, the way I see it we are pretty set on offense and still rebuilding on defense. We have OL, WR's and RB set when it comes to starters. Seems like the D is where we are still losing vets so I see us continuing this recent trend of D first.

If you look at the last 3 years we have improved each year and gone further in the playoffs each year due to drafting D first and sprinkling O in after the fact.

I think we pick another LB or DB.

So if the BPA is QB or OG you would select him over a DB or LB?

I think our philosophy has always been BPA at a position of need.

It depends. If the value is there, they very well could draft the BPA...or, trade out of the spot...

Pretty Simple. Look at last years roster at this time on offense. Now fast forward with the answers the Regular Season & Post Season provided. Do you feel differently about a TE, WR, RB, or QB In the first last year compared to this? Last year...I would scratch my head at any one of those pics. This year...I would applaud them.

Some in here might put there fist through their TV after the first pick. I would be willing to say you will regret it by week 4 & may even bow to the FO after what may transpire over the next 2-3 years. I don't want to go out on a limb & say the 30th is a luxury pick..But any defensive need or infusion that will happen can easily be injected in rounds 2-3. I'm absolutely not against any DEFENSIVE player at 30...Just a valued one. Don't misunderstand..There are some OLB OR CB they can't pass on. I just don't think they will be there. The next tier doesn't have a large drop off. It's deep at our needs in the 2nd & 3rd. That's my thoughts.

I hear what your saying and I respectfully disagree. For the most part, the NFL gets right the grade they give a OLB in the first round compared to an OLB that is available in the 3rd round. For the most part.

With that said, if we want to seriously challenge for a Super Bowl birth, we have to fix our pass rush and our coverage of wide recievers. So...a first round selection offers us the best chance (based on odds of the majority of the best players are in the first two rounds) of adequately addressing those needs. And the odds decrease as we move on down thru the draft.

I don't want to start addressing red alert needs in the 3rd round; I want to start to address them in the 1st round because the odds are the best for me to find someone who can help us immediately in those areas.

Now..............are there a number of guys who pan out in rounds 3 and beyond every year? Of course there are. And it's Colbert's job to be able to identify those guys who can. But our odds are the best in the first two round and our odds decrease accordingly.

I respect your opinion & disagree as well. Our first 3 picks last year were starters. Most of our successful OLB were not 1st rounders. Unique animal 3-4 OLB Transition. Even the one that came from a similar system ended up a bust. Confident in saying a pick 30 OLB (who may be there) isn't going to push JH to the bench any faster than a 2nd or 3rd. He's gonna to have his growing pains in rotation before they crown him.

Steelers didn't fall flat against the Pats just because of the pass rush. Sorry lol They couldnt keep up. Outgunned. Bell down maybe you could point to... Never know. Bryant would help. Green would of helped if we were playing flag that day. Bell will be back. Bryant will be back for 2017. Green is not someone they can depend on & I don't think they are. There is 3 names on offense I'll take over the 5th or 6th edge. I'll get the ROLB in the 2nd & my CB IN 3rd if one of those offensive guys are there. JH didn't sign to come off bench in 2017. He here to hold it down early & mentor. I take in account breadcrumbs. We will see how it all pans out.

IMO, Colbert isn't going to get cute as a lot of people think. Just like he didn't last year. When we pick in the first round, if Cunningham , Obi or King is there, one of those three will be our selection. And in the second round, we'll pick from the positions we didn't select in the first.
