    Ben Considering Retirement?

    http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2017/01/24/ben-roethlisberger-on-patriots-they-out-coached-us-they-out-played-us-they-out-executed-us/

Probably just frustration on his part, but he raised the spectre.

All the more reason to draft a QB in this years draft.

I agree. It's time to start seriously looking around. Just about anything would be an improvement over Jones.

It's a good thing then that the Steelers have their next franchise QB already on the roster.
Obviously the standard is the standard.

While I feel Ben will be back next season,I also don't see him playing until he's 39 or 40.I'm thinking 3 years tops

he's frustrated - and with all the weapons they had (and should have had) I think he's viewing the offense this season as underachieving. However as long as he's healthy - he'll keep playing. Ben made some poor choices early in his career - his life after football is uncertain and as long as he wants to play, he'll make millions. When you factor in the way the league protects QB's (well, QB's named Brady) - there's no reason for him to walk away anytime soon.

I'm liking Sefo Liufau quite a bit. Very raw with inconsistent decision making but the arm and athletic talent to be groomed. Chad Kelly is also very interesting. He reminds me of a neurotic Brett Farve. I have rated out as a first round talent but has 2 cent maturity. Not sure I would touch him but wow grabbing him in the 7th would be very tempting.

Somewhere Bruce Arians sits and smiles. And licks his chops.

I will tip my hat to Tomlin if he has a winning record and the team makes the play-offs in the upcoming season.

IMO, his ego is to big to retire yet, if he can win another Super Bowl then he retires. Or another 2 or 3 years, which ever comes first

I read on a website a few years back that Ben restructured his contract more than a few times and more hard cash than anyone in the NFL. Not sure if that still holds true or not. I don't see him retiring, but I see a tea Ike theCardinals looking to trade for him.

If you look at everything Ben said, this doesn't sound like a guy not coming back. He's frustrated at getting embarrassed:

“They outcoached us, they outplayed us, they out-executed us, and the better team won the football game. ... That’s why I made the comments that I made after the game and even today, that guys have to understand the game can’t be too big. I think it was for some guys. And that’s OK; they’re gonna have to learn. Obviously, we didn’t get to where we wanted to go, but hopefully we’ll learn from it and see what next year holds.”

Yep. Drafting #30 I'm sure we could get the next Mark Malone, Cliff Stoudt, Neil O'Donnell or even Kordell Stewert. I pretty much guarantee we won't get the next Big Ben especially in a draft year that is very weak for QBs.

Ben Roethlisberger not committing to 2017 season

While Tom Brady (http://www.nfl.com/player/tombrady/2504211/profile), Drew Brees (http://www.nfl.com/player/drewbrees/2504775/profile) and many other aging quarterbacks insist they'll play several more years, Ben Roethlisberger (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) is taking a different route when discussing his future.
The 34-year-old spoke cryptically about retirement when asked by 93.7 The Fan's "The Cook and Poni Show (http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2017/01/24/ben-roethlisberger-on-patriots-they-out-coached-us-they-out-played-us-they-out-executed-us/)."
"I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options," Roethlisberger said. "To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there's going to be a next season."

When pushed further about whether he'd play next season, Big Ben (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) reiterated his wait-and-see approach.
"I'm going to take some time and evaluate with my family and just do a lot of praying about it and make sure it's the right thing for me and my family," he said.
Roethlisberger's comments will largely be met by scoffing and allegations of the quarterback building the drama -- as he is wont to do with injuries during the season. While it'd be a shock if he walks away this year, he'd hardly be the first or last to leave the NFL with plenty left in the tank.
Mike Tomlin said Tuesday he hasn't met with Big Ben (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) yet, but isn't alarmed by the comment
"He said it. So you do take it seriously," the Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) coach said. "I think that that's a fair assessment in terms of where he is in his career. I'm not alarmed by it. I just think that that's football.
Obviously, I'm hopeful that he returns. His return obviously and the potential for his return or not returning will weigh heavily in our planning. But I'm not alarmed or surprised by that thought process. That's life. He's a significant component, the most significant component of what it is that we do and we'll plan and react accordingly."
Big Ben (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) is coming off a fantastic performance in the AFC Championship Game -- let down repeatedly by his secondary weapons. For a quarterback that's sustained multiple severe injuries during his career, however, he could decide getting banged around by the likes of Terrell Suggs (http://www.nfl.com/player/terrellsuggs/2505660/profile) is no longer worth it.

What must the Steelers address this offseason?

                              00:00/03:03

If Big Ben (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) did retire, it would be a massive blow to the Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT), who have failed to cultivate a capable backup for years. Landry Jones (http://www.nfl.com/player/landryjones/2539287/profile), set to be a free agent, spent this year as the backup, with Zach Mettenberger (http://www.nfl.com/player/zachmettenberger/2543605/profile) as the third stringer. Neither QB is capable of keeping the Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) in the championship hunt. The prospect of Big Ben (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) walking away anytime soon is likely to scare the wits out of any Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) fan.
Given his other comments after the AFC Championship Game, Roethlisberger's cryptic comments about his future are likely to come to nothing. But it is a reminder to the Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) that Big Ben (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile) is closing in on the back nine of his career.
