Not long ago, there was discussion about Williams ... who'd been suspended for 10 weeks by the league for failing a drug test. Some said that, at that point, the team had dropped him from any future plans. Not the case. Steelers just re-upped him:

I'm all for second chances but draw the line at 3, 4, or 5.

I don't really see the big deal with substance abuse players getting a few chances. Heck a few have straightened up been a very good player and productive people after football. Many players have abused something since the beginning and sad but true it is a national problem not just NFL. Give these guys a chance or 2. But once it gets worse and police are involved with DUI's and other police matters then it is time to move on. Heck the NFL policy should have that covered anyway. And I bet it continues and gets worse. We will see a lot more very good players with suspensions in the coming years.

Yep. And the off season roster is 90 players. Why not throw him on it and allow him access to the team and facilities. Good way to keep an eye on him and gives them months to see how he's doing and if he impresses.

Heard when they picked him up during the season, they knew he was getting the 10 game suspension so this doesn't surprise me.
I'm guessing he's been under Vince's tuteledge
