our defense is like spoiled milk

    you take a drink
you realize it is spoiled but you put it back in the fridge anyway
for some reason you think it will be drinkable the next time if someone else tries it.

I'd say we're more like Limburger cheese. We're stinky and just awful.

As I was driving home tonight, I tuned into the local sports station (WEEI) and Belichick was discussing the flea flicker play.

He said they knew that the Steelers don't substitute very much on defense, basically going with the same 12-13 players for most of the game (he indicated that this has been the Steelers pattern for a number of years). He said they felt that it in the right game situation, the flea flicker play would work because the defense would be, not gassed, but perhaps just expecting the usual play calling (a short pass or a run between the tackles).

He also said that other teams in the league employ other strategies, that after a certain amount of plays on defense they'll do wholesale substitutions, regardless of down and distance, just to get fresh legs on the field.

Hard to question the rationale of the GOAT. I look for it to get him another trophy here in 2 weeks.

Audio is at the link below, if you're interested. The whole clip is 18 minutes - the part about the flea flicker starts at the 5:00 mark. You may want to skip the rest - a lot of pandering by the radio guys.

Obviously, anyone can win it, but after watching those 2 games yesterday, Atlanta looks unstoppable. Never thought they could put 30 points up that easily on GB before the half. Should be a good game, but i look for Atlanta to win it. I don't think Belichick will be able take everything away from that offense.

And if they do, the Pats will have another SB record. The most losses by any SB team......

Quinn built a defense like in Seattle. They get pressure with 4 and blitz off the edge while actually covering WR's...

it should be a good game.

Im curious to see how the Pats defend Julio.

The difference between them and the Steelers, is they actually have some very good WR's behind Julio. Sanu, Hardy, and that other one who I forget his last name atm, but he had some big games this fall. Sanu had some monster games as well. Big addition.

I always thought we were missing some pieces to our offense this year. Sure Hamilton had a good game or 2, and Eli stepped up, but Wheaton, Coates, and D-Bey were mostly hurt/ non-existent. Very surprised to see Ayers out of the game this past weekend, but he's another also-ran. avg. wr. but with potential if he gets more playing time.

Atlanta just has way more weapons for Ryan.

                      Taylor Gabriel (former Brown).

Julio is a gamechanger, he owned that terrible Packers secondary. The Falcons top two weapons (Freeman and Julio) are on par with our top two weapons (Bell and Brown). Knowing Belicheck schemes to take away the top weapon(s) as we've heard for the last week and a half, I expect him to have trouble with the Falcons offense. He won't have a gift of one of them suddenly being injured after a few carries most likely. But where the Falcons have a leg up on the Steelers and can give the Patriots fits is the 2nd, 3rd and 4th options. Tevin Coleman, backup rb is way more dynamic than DeAngelo and like you mentioned pfelix, their wrs are very good and they will flood zones with an extra guy coming across the formation late. Assuming Ryan gets time, he should carve up the Patriots defense. But lets see what Belicheck has up his sleeve. Should be a good game.

Julio is much harder to cover than Brown. He's 6 inches taller and 40 lbs bigger. But for as talented as Julio is, he doesn't score enough TDs, although last week was an exception for him. I'd say you need to commit at least 2.5 guys to stop him and you're still not winning that battle most of the time.
