A hand laceration and multiple broken fingers don't make catching a football more difficult, does it?
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

          Minor issues? For a receiver?

Let's drop a sledgehammer on Usain Bolt's foot so there's open wound and a couple of toes are broken. Now go run the 100M dash, buddy.

they were minor enough that tomlin allowed him to return kicks, start him in afcc and deactivate a healthy ayres. not to mention waiting until after the season to have surgery.

I guess its definitely worth the risk letting a guy return kicks with broken fingers

Well I guess we'll just have to wait and see... but the reason he (with his athletic ability) fell to 3rd is because he had frying pan hands in college.

he is a body catcher and I HATE those types. Dude makes himself 5 inches shorter due to his horrible technique.

That being said, he is still a weapon IF his hand injury was the primary reason for his short arms in the Pats game. I remember the game he balled out and he still had 4 or 5 easy drops. I think that was the game where we first heard about his injury.

Steelers are willing to wait and see with Coates, they will let him heal up and they are going to work with him. The guy can just flat out get open, he's big, fast, and a match up nightmare, he will get every opportunity.

Sammie Coates recovering from groin surgery
Posted by Josh Alper on February 14, 2017, 8:10 AM EST

Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates may qualify for a volume discount on surgery this offseason.

Coates had surgery last month to repair the finger injuries that limited his effectiveness during the 2016 season and he revealed another operation on Monday night. Coates wrote on Twitter that “having surgery on your pelvis” is an unpleasant experience and responded affirmatively to a question about whether the surgery was to repair a groin injury.

Coates didn’t give a timetable for his return to physical activity from the surgery, but the typical timeline should leave him ready to go in time for offseason work and training camp.

Coates had 21 catches over the course of the season with 19 of them coming in the first five games of the year. He and the Steelers will hope that better health leads to more sustained success in 2017.

Ayers had surgery after the season, too, so I'm not sure that he was healthy.

Like I've been saying, between the mystery of Bryant, Green and Coates, we need to seriously look at Kenny Britt in free agency. Give Ben someone other then Rodgers and Brown. He needs weapons to get that ball out of his hands. That keeps Ben healthy.
