It's about the matchup problems and the way a guy like Green affects the defense. Nobody is saying James can't catch or ever get open, but he's not going to make you keep a safety in the middle of the field or make a defense cover him with a safety. With Green out there a lot more things open up offensively.

Ben has a problem sometimes with favorites,ESPECIALLY Brown (When Martavious was playing Browns number dropped when Landry played). Beyond the return of Bell, JJ got the dropsies for a bit (of the receivers and tight ends only Coates has more drops and Coates has only "one" more drop than JJ), there may have been a little trust issue for Ben.
Nevertheless here is what I think JJs role is. He is not supposed to be primary but rather an outlet when others are covered. A keep drive alive check down guy. He also is a great red zone target with his height, the one situation I want him as primary.
But do we want him as the first option outside the red zone? Even as an outlet, if Ben has a choice between JJ and Bell, Bell is far more likely to make a big play out of a short pass.
I don't care how much he is "targeted" just not missed if everyone is covered.
He was used well in that drive.Last edited by Captain Lemming; 01-08-2017, 11:13 AM.sigpic
In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:
