Boswell questionable w/ abdominal injury so Steelers sign emergency kicker Bullock

With Boswell injured, Steelers add a kicker

The Steelers made an emergency kicker move Saturday morning, signing Randy Bullock.

The Steelers added kicker Chris Boswell to their injury report as questionable with an abdominal injury on Saturday. Though the move would indicate that Boswell will miss Sunday’s game with the Giants, the team doesn’t have to decide until 90 minutes before kickoff.

Bullock kicked for the Giants in the season opener and has been on the workout circuit since looking for an opportunity. He kicked for the Texans from 2013 until being released last season, then kicked in eight games for the Jets last season. He made 14-of-17 field goal tries for the Jets.

He kicked in one game for the Texans at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, which has been one of the league’s toughest stadiums for kicking conditions.

Boswell is in his second season kicking for the Steelers. He’s been perfect on extra-point kicks and is 12-of-16 on field goals this season.

Cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz was released to create a roster spot for Bullock.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Think it must be the latter. Another reason to crack down on the Attention Ho!

The reports I read make it sound like he strained himself in practice on Friday.

This is a dumb rule. If the role of kicker is so interchangeable and you can essentially just hire a kicker for a game or two, it just doesn't look right. It points to how specialized the NFL is. What a little injury like this should do, is make your Punter do double-duty. That would add some texture to the game, the season, if a guy on your team has to step up for the team. I remember Faneca having to move from G to LT one year, or Carnell having to move to CB from S, because the team was short-handed.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.
