Stephon Tuitt named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Tuitt named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Posted by Zac Jackson on November 23, 2016, 9:39 AM EST

Steelers defensive end Stephon Tuitt was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his efforts in last Sunday’s win over the Browns.

Tuitt was credited with a career-best 2.5 sacks in the game. He seemed to be around the ball and in the Browns’ backfield for much of the afternoon in a 24-9 win punctuated by a defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter when Ryan Shazier forced a fumble and Javon Hargrave recovered it for a touchdown.

The Steelers had 13 sacks total in their first nine games but had eight last week against the Browns.

Tuitt was credited with six tackles, four solo, in the game. He becomes the first Steelers’ player to be named AFC Defensive Player of the Week since Troy Polamalu was in Week 12 of 2013.

Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Congrats to Tuitt for a solid game, and something we've been waiting for.

He's had mostly a dud of a season up till the Browns game. Hope it was his wake-up, and he plays like this the rest of the season. Badly needed with Heyward out.

        McCullers too!

Just looked him up, wow, I didn't realize he was in his third year.

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

Not out of the question the Steelers chase another DL in the draft next year. While 'on paper' says they got the talent they need, the performance from a few of them hasn't been all that stellar.
