Silver Lining: Good Ben pulled the game out on a must score TD drive once again

It was kind of like the SB against the Cardinals. Everyone in the stadium knew what he was about to do, and still the other team couldn't stop him.

Obviously the D was the difference, no Woodley to make that final stop (sack?).

But at least Ben showed he's still got that in him. Which hadn't been entirely clear for a long time, it seems.

We got our "6-PACK" - time to work on a CASE!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

True dat. I saw him and felt confident he could pull it off for the first time in years.
I also had the feeling in the Balt game that if we got the onside, he'd pull it off.

Ben cost us the game by not taking more time
off the clock to score a TD.

***YES. There are actually Steeler fans out there who think this

        Silver lining.

The little optimism I have left is we should have beat one of the top teams
in the league and we sort of hung in vs. the pats with our back up QB
im hoping the young guys on defense can improve and Dupree can come in and make a difference.

And if we win the division, have a home playoff game vs. Denver or KC (not the raiders) who I think we can beat if things go right.

I'm trying to think along these lines too. And I think this is EXACTLY why Ben is pleading with the team, esp rookies, to take things more seriously/urgently. I think he sees enough talent that we could go on a run.

he didn't cost us the game but I knew 42 seconds was too much time.

Especially since all they needed was a FG to win.

I had no idea they would actually score a TD tho...lol

There is no way that in that situation that you can be guaranteed to score a TD if you try burning the clock. If you have a chance to score, you score and ask your defense to close the game out. They should be able to defend for 42 seconds. It's ludicrous to expect the offense to burn the clock when you need a TD to take the lead, yeah, if you're talking about a 30 yard FG, that's different, but when you need a TD, you take it when you can get it and let the other units of the team seal the win. The defense failed.

The other thing that played against the Steelers with 42 seconds, was the fact they still had 3 timeouts. In TV time 42 seconds is like 5 -10 mins with the 3 timeouts. When needing more than a field goal to win, you score when you can.

the real silver lining is after all that - we're only 1 game back of a team we still have to play... and the Bengals lost so they're behind us.

                  really not worried.... yet.

I don't guess anyone can do anything but guess ... but I wonder/it seems that we have more injuries than the average team?

Can't blame Ben for scoring when he saw the opportunity. D needs to be able to hold with 42 seconds. But knowing how crappy this D is, I had NO confidence that they'd be able to hold Dallas, especially when Dallas had 3 timeouts. Playing defense the way the Steelers have this season, even if they should happen to make the playoffs, they aren't going anywhere.

This! The defense failed. It's complete inability to mount even a modest level of pressure is killing them. Ben used 2 TEs, a RB and a WR to march 75 yards and get the go ahead TD. The O did exactly what it's supposed to do. The D came out and didn't pressure, didn't cover receivers, and got a face mask penalty on a guy already wrapped up. The idea that 42 seconds is too much time is an embarrassment to D staff and players.

a TD and 2 pt conversion makes it an3 point game.

Nobody "waits" to score a touchdown there
