    Davis on his missed block

resulting in a blocked punt... "a miscommunication". Not buying this, as it has come out that Davis failed to block the edge rusher on other punts. The guy clearly didn't know what he was supposed to be doing. Is this young guy inexperience or coaching failure in preparing his squad?

If he's failed to block the edge rusher on other punts, then it should have been addressed by the coaches. If not, then ... wow.

Tulch put that play up, and it showed Robert Golden telling him something pre snap. So I buy the miscommunication.

That was on THAT punt. But the Ravens noticed he left his guy unblocked on previous plays:

If the player doesnt get it, it's up to the coach to replace him.
If it happens during practice it's going to happen come game time.

            $$$$$$$$

If it's true that he left his man unblocked on previous plays, the coaches should have caught the pattern, and either made sure it was corrected, or pulled him.

Sure looked like he was supposed to block him or at least slow him down

Between this miscommunication and the earlier decision of the coaching staff to replace Davis in the nickel so he could focus on safety only, I'm wondering if he has a bit of Shmarko Thomas syndrome.

According to this report, it may have been someone other than Davis who was to blame on the blocked punt play.

At some point, doesn't the punter himself deserve some blame for just going though with the punt? With a completely free blocker coming at him, there was no chance in hell he was getting that punt off. He could have helped save the 7 points by just running with the ball or falling on it.

I think he is so focused on kicking the ball that, at that point, he's looking down and not around to see whether a block was missed. Don't think you can blame the punter on that one.

Maybe. I just think that by the time you get to the NFL level, there should be some expectation of being able to make a decision on whether you can get a punt off. It wasn't even close.

No way he ever saw that guy, the punter focuses on the catch and then his head is down focused on the football. This one is all on Davis, he clearly blew his assignment, or didn't know it.
