The problem with the offense was they where running against 8 man fronts, putting us in a lot 3rd and longs. Those are runs Ben usually checks out of, but for some reason he didn't. Either he forgot how to read a defense, or the game plan was to try and take the air out football and limit the number of throws.

Taking the air out of footballs is Tom Brady's job

Someone else brought up, and the more I think about it I wonder if it might be true, that maybe he was on some kind of pain killers that numbed his brain. He really looked like he couldn't read the defense at all, and was maybe forgetting which way receivers were going to cut, etc.
And if the coaches were trying to take it easy on him, then they should have sat him. Right?

If this is the case, the coaches must have seen it after a few plays. For them to keep him in the game anyway would speak volumes about their lack of confidence in Landry Jones. If this was indeed the scenario, then you would think getting a backup QB would have to be near the top of their priority list this coming offseason.

In such a scenario, I'd guess that they must've thought their game plan would be clever enough to both "take it easy on" Ben, but still enable them to beat a 3-4 Ravens team that had been reeling coming into the game. Obviously, it wasn't.

Well I think Tomlin pretty much confirmed that they where protecting Ben, so it looks like it was a product of the game plan.

Maybe... I don't think it's a hard decision to make when you have a rusty Ben vs Landry Jones in Baltimore.
You might be right tho, maybe Landry gets a W vs the Ravens and keeps the D honest.
Also would think Ben playing at home would help his confidence in his first game back.
Is is it me or is Ben always injured right before we play the Ravens?
I'm tired of every year having to rest, protect and wait for Ben to get his feet wet while we tread water for 4 games. I think it's time to draft Ben's real replacement next year if one exist in the first 2 rounds.
