What does this mean? The future is now?! While Burns might have the speed, his tackling (or lack of) is scary at times. One thing fans can no longer complain about is rookies not starting for the Steelers.

It means the Burns and Cockrell are better on the outside and Gay is better in the slot. All 3 will be on the field together more than half the time.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Burns has always been on the outside though. This means more than just that.

All things considered, I think it's a good sign. Because from the coach's PoV, they can see clear as day how bad he has been in run support. They must either have an inkling that he's about to turn that in another direction, or that he's showing he's ready to step up his coverage. Cuz I don't think it is a demotion of Gay, who is still a steady-Eddie.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Perhaps it is to use Burns to match Wallace's speed on the outside and they know that Burns won't have to have elite pass defense or tackling skills because Wallace won't make a contested catch. Just need Burns to be close.

This is exactly what I was thinking. The most you need against Wallace is to match his speed. Gay can't neutralize that but Burns can.

The run support concern is spot on. Early at camp he would get caught up inside and allow the back to bounce to the edge. He has got to have a good game there because he will be tested. I'm confident at least he'll be good enough in run support and getting Cam back will help in that aspect.

It came out today that Gay has a foot injury. He'll probably be active for the game, but the bad wheel might be an additional factor in moving Burns ahead of him in the lineup for this game.

Ain't no way Burns is good enough to "demote" Gay just yet. Burns has been awful so far this year.

The Steelers just brought up Al-Hajj Shabazz from the practice squad, with Wallace to IR. Seems like Gay's injury could be significant enough for him to miss this game.
