What is the word on Hubbard?

Is he a guy that the staff particularly likes, or is he just another ham and egger like Trai Essex or Tony Hills type of guy? I can't find much online of him (i.e. in terms of when he came out for the draft... no write-up).

Well, as of right now, Chris Hubbard and Wesley Johnson have the same number of starts in 3 NFL seasons (one apiece).

So how did Hubbard put that type of performance out there. He used a combo of excellent footwork and his hand placement getting inside of the DE all game put him in position to hold out some serious front line talent. To be honest it was a clinic on leverage. His tech was excellent and though he deserves the bulk of the credit you have to believe Munch should get at least a honorable mention. Finney's performance the week before was also outstanding. Finney is inside Hubbard out there at T well I just can't say enough about how difficult that leverage game is and he was excellent. He was a T in college but the fact he can play every line position truly makes him a valuable chess piece for us.

He's been with the team since 2013...he's got the blocking schemes, protections, and communication down by now...if he's got good technique and leverage, the he is most definitely and asset...

Under his watch, out of NOWHERE:
-two solid LTs have emerged (Villanueva and Beachum)
-two promising backups (Finney, Hubbard; I know it is still early for them)

Also coincidentally or not, Marcus Gilbert turned from an underachiever into a potential All-Pro. It also shows what a bum Mike Adams truly was.

Now, if Lake can have the same effect in the secondary with much more clay to mold (Burns, Gilbert, Golson), we'll be something really special.

Steelers QB Roethlisberger took advantage of good O-line play and a lack of New York pass-rush to shred the Jets’ secondary at every level of the field. The stellar line play allowed Roethlisberger to record 334 of his 380 passing yards without pressure in the pocket. He continually found favorable matchups underneath, completing 27 of 33 pass attempts on throws traveling less than 10 yards in the air.

Offensive-line protection key to Steelers’ passing success

The Steelers offensive line gave Roethlisberger clean pockets to throw from, as 30 of his 34 completions came with no pressure. Chris Hubbard, in his first start, earned an impressive 89.6 pass-protection grade, while not allowing a single pressure or sack. The running game struggled, with Le’Veon Bell gaining 66 yards on 20 attempts. Bell did find success in the receiving game, however, exploiting mismatches underneath with linebackers to finish with nine catches for 88 yards and an 85.9 receiving grade. Sammie Coates experienced ups and downs, posting a big statistical day, though his five drops ultimately led to just a 46.8 overall grade.

James Harrison did his damage from the left side of the offensive formation, finishing with three quarterback pressures. Arthur Moats had one sack and three hurries on only 14 pass-rushing snaps. William Gay led the way in the secondary, yielding only one reception for 10 yards on two targets.

I'm not shocked to see Hubbard do some good things. Last year, they had the SteelerFanFest at Heinz field.. This is an event where you can tour some Steeler exhibits and also there are players at stations signing autographs and chitchatting in street clothes. I attended and I remember well the impression that Hubbard made on me when I observed him at his station. This would have been his second year with the team, and he looked to me like he had worked very hard in the weight room and looked very strong. When I left the event, I really thought that Hubbard was the most physically impressive looking player I had seen there.

I don't think some of the fans realize how strong this guy is and he isn't a slob. His weight is well proportioned. He is tough to move out of the way.

Munch sure is one hell of an asset. Super glad he came to Pitt. It's no coincidence that our OL has performed so much better because of him and his teaching abilities. Hate to say it, but someday soon he might get another opportunity to be a HC. Great for him, but not so much for us.
