    Steelers release quarterback Bruce Gradkowski

By: Simon A Chester | 14 hours ago

The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have made a roster move this Friday afternoon, most likely bringing an end to the career of an 11-year NFL veteran and Pittsburgh native, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.

Bruce Gradkowski found himself placed on injured reserve after damaging his hamstring in the Steelers opening game of the preseason back in August, just a year after he had missed virtually all of 2015 with shoulder and hand injuri

Now a free agent, it would be a surprise if Gradkowski found a new home this year, barring significant injury elsewhere. In all probability, the 33-year old has played his last down in the league, although, even though Gradkowski was signed by Pittsburgh in 2013, very few of those career snaps have come with the Steelers.

While his lifetime stat line in Pittsburgh reads as two rushes for -2-yards and 2 out 3 passing for a total of 22-yards, it was Gradkowski input in the quarterback room and impact on the sidelines that endeared him to his teammates and so many fans.

They may have been little fanfare surrounding his release from the team, but the loss for those within the organization will surely be felt. It is a surprising release given the minimal saving it will create for the Steelers salary cap wise versus the veteran presence the team will miss out on.

Born in Pittsburgh, the local product was always a popular figure with Steeler Nation and given his fame, it would be no surprise to see him somewhere in the media in the future.

If this is the last we have seen of Gradkowski in the NFL, he wraps up his career having played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, and Steelers with career passing numbers of 375 completions from 709 attempts for 4057-yards and 21 touchdowns.

The Steelers promoted Matt Feiler and Al-Hajj Shabazz to the active roster and placed Senquez Golson and Ryan Harris on the Reserve/Injured List on Saturday.

The Steelers placed cornerback Senquez Golson and offensive tackle Ryan Harris on the team’s Reserve/Injured List, it was announced today.

The Steelers also promoted offensive lineman Matt Feiler and cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz to the team’s active roster.

Feiler and Shabazz have each spent the entire 2016 season on the Steelers’ practice squad.

Feiler originally was signed by the Steelers to the team’s practice squad in Sept. 7, 2015 after being released by the Houston Texans two days earlier. Following a collegiate career at Bloomsburg University, Feiler was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent in May 2014. He spent the entire 2014 season on Houston’s practice squad.

Shabazz was signed by the Steelers to a Reserve/Future contract on Feb. 4, 2016. He originally was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Indianapolis Colts in May 2015. He played collegiately at West Chester University

Does this mean that Golson is officially done for the year?

It means they can only bring one guy back from IR. They don't have to decide now which one it will be. The can track their rehab progress and decide in the second half of the year which guy would help us most for the playoff run. If they bring back Bud Dupree, then Golson and Harris are officially done for the year. If they bring back Golson, then Dupree and Harris are done. If they bring back Harris, then Dupree and Golson are done. All things considered, I imagine the team is hoping that Bud can contribute later this year, but we'll see.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

My biggest concern is Harris (i.e. Gilbert) What was once the Steelers greatest weapons the O line now has a big dent. Harris was a great pick up for a back up, he gets hurt so bad from a contusion (bruise) that he is placed on IR within a week of getting hurt. With this they sure can't go long without Gilbert, but I believe he is one of those play through the pain types. With this week the ankle being just a little too tender, next week he comes back. But with these consecutive weeks of O linemen going down 25% into the season, how much more is to come? Need them to keep healthy.
