Ravens Did More to Improve Secondary

Sign Jerraud Powers to 1 yr deal, on top of snagging Weddle... and resigning Wright.

Powers, Weddle, and Wright are all short term band aids in the effort to improve their secondary.

Burns, Davis, and Golson are potentially long term solutions in the effort to improve our secondary.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Cowher did not want Ben, was OVERRULED by Rooney so.....it was never Cowhers team either.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

Weddle obviously has the potential to be a solid pick-up. But let's be honest: the guy is on the downside in his career... he's gets one injury that lingers, and he's going to be Duce Staley. Not to be revisionist, but I wasn't beating the drum on Weddle. The guy would cost some good coin, but clearly had seen his better days.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

Speaking of Golson...I read an article yesterday about him making a decision on getting a million dollar deal with the Reds at 18 vs. now in football. 24/7 made it seems like (it was click bait, trust me) Pittsburgh made that choice for him, which is pretty absurd. I'll give Golson this year as a pass since this is technically his first season, second and third year (which would be his third and fourth) I'll be concerned if he doesn't click and by his fourth/fifth year and doesn't get it...toss him like Jarvis Jones will be next season.

Of course they did. Has the steelers ever done anything more than the rats in the off season?

                          Direct quote from Rooney's autobiography:

"Our people seemed to have focused on Shawn Andrews as our likely No. 1 pick.
"But when our turn came, I couldn't bear the thought of passing on another great quarterback prospect the way we passed on Dan Marino in 1983. So I steered the conversation around to Roethlisberger. After some more talk, we came to a consensus and picked Roethlisberger."

Dont get me wrong, I like Cowher, even more that Tomlin, but Tomlin is a good coach and to discredit his success saying it was Cowhers players is ridiculous. Especially to imply Ben was Cowhers guy when he, Colbert and the staff was saved by Rooney from BLOWING THAT PICK altogether
                          .

Not sure I understand how anyone could begin to argue that Pittsburgh "made that choice for him" since he was drafted by the Red Sox in 2011 coming out of high school. He had no connection with Pittsburgh until they drafted him in 2015 coming out of college.

not too many coaches inherit a super bowl caliber team with a HOF qb entering his prime.
if tomlin can win after ben leaves then i will give him all kinds of credit. until then, i say he's done a good job letting his coordinators run their show and keeping the players motivated.
