No veteran leadership at the safety position

http://triblive.com/sports/steelers/10423048-74/virginia-johnson-penn

NO WELCOME CALL YET

First-round pick Artie Burns said some of the veteran cornerbacks reached out and welcomed him. Not so for second-round pick Sean Davis, a safety.

“No one called me yet. I don't know if that's good or bad,” a smiling Davis said. “But it doesn't matter to me. I'm coming out here playing hard every day. Hopefully, they talk to me soon.”

Shocking, really. Mike Mitchell displays such maturity on the field, it's almost impossible to imagine him not being a strong leader off the field...

Quite a tenuous situation.

I really don't expect Ventrone, Thomas or Golden to help this kid in any way. Those guys are all fighting for there own jobs.

Not sure why Mitchell hasn't reached out to this kid. Guess it really does speak mouthfuls about his character. Maybe he needs to see what Davis can do before he deems him "worthy" of any sort of assistance.

But that type of attitude isn't putting the team first. I mean, competition is healthy, but not at the cost of affecting team chemistry and cohesion.

Now I'm pulling for Davis more than ever.

But, hey, in Tomlin we trust, right???

Not a surprise with MM, unfortunately.

I realize that there are posters who don't like Mike Mitchell, but this thread is silly...
Actually, my post was NOT about you...but, if the shoe fits, feel free to lace that &!+€# up and wear it.

No "welcome to the team" phone call equals no veteran leadership? Okaaaaay...

These rookies will receive their official "welcome to the team" in Latrobe when they get hit by NFL players at NFL speed for the first time.

Until then, they'll work out together, learn schemes together, etc.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Contrast that with stories about Bud Dupree getting a call from James Harrison (who he thought was a coach) or all the stories you hear about the defensive lineman passing down traditions.

It's not a huge deal, and I'll be the first to acknowledge that I don't like Mike Mitchell at all, but really, how hard is it to call the new guy at your position and say "welcome aboard, get ready to work."

A few years ago, James Harrison wouldn't speak to you unless you made the team...

There are different kinds of leadership. When your firm hires a new lawyer, do you call that person?

If they are in my practice group, I absolutely do.

And Mike Mitchell is no James Harrison.

Did Timmons or Shazier call Matekevich?

Did Dupree or Jones call Feeney?

Did Heyward call Hargrave?

Did AB call Ayers?

I guess they are all bad "leaders" and poor teammates too. Let's start a thread for each of them to discuss what bad guys they are.

Call people? Who does that now? They probably added each other on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. That way, you don't have to actually talk to them ever again.

Come on Ruthless! Don't you know how serious the lack of a phone call is. It may result in hurt feelings. This could cost us the Super Bowl. Does the CBA allow us to suspend Mitchell without pay?
