Both of our 7th round picks sign 4 year rookie contracts

    Steelers sign their seventh-round picks

The check-listing of rookie contracts is in full effect, and has taken hold in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers announced they had signed seventh-rounders DeMarcus Ayers and Tyler Matakevich to their four-year rookie deals.

With draft picks descending on Pittsburgh for rookie minicamp this weekend, it was easy enough to get them signed.

Ayers, a wide receiver from Houston, could provide some help on returns this year. Matakevich is a linebacker from Temple, who was the school’s all-time leading tackler and won both the Chuck Bednarik Award and Bronko Nargurski Trophy.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

Steelers sign another pick, sixth-rounder Travis Feeney
Posted by Darin Gantt on May 6, 2016, 2:54 PM EDT

Some teams are carpet-bombing their draft pick signings, getting most of them done at once. The Steelers are picking theirs off Sgt. Alvin York-style, one at a time from the back to the front.

The Steelers announced today that sixth-rounder Travis Feeney had signed his rookie deal.

He’s their third pick to sign, after they got their seventh-rounders taken care of yesterday.

Feeney, an outside linebacker from Washington, had 8.0 sacks last season. He figures to add depth and a special teams presence this year.

Sgt York style...I like that. You are suppose to engage from the rear of a column and work your way to the front. I guess appropriate tactics being used.
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

All three will make the team and will be major contributors in 2-3 years. Our D is changing, and both Feeney and Matakevich fit. Feeney will become our D. Buchannon (of the Cards) in passing stituations (half S, half LB) and Matakevich will be a ST demon and a ILB whose smarts and hustle (think Bruschi and Ninkovich of the dreaded Pats) put him on the field. Ayers will be good enough on ST to keep AB from getting killed returning punts and he'll replace Wheaton when he leaves as an FA. Three good football players.
