Marvel Back This Week or Out for the Year with Back Surgery?

Tomlin's quotes this week sounded somewhat promising...now this.

    MARVEL DONE?
Posted by Mike Florio on November 12, 2008, 7:41 p.m. EST
We’re told that Steelers tackle Marvel Smith, who hasn’t played since October 5 at Jacksonville, currently is expected to undergo back surgery, and he will miss the rest of the year.

On Tuesday, coach Mike Tomlin suggested that Smith could return this weekend.

“He’s missed some time. Not only in terms of health, but technically he’s got to be up to speed,” Tomlin said. “He’s got to knock the rust off quickly if he’s going to play for us this weekend.”

Smith, a nine-year veteran, has started every game that he has played since his second year, and he started the first five games of the 2008 season. Max Starks has struggled at times in place of Smith.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

If he has surgery AGAIN, he can forget about a big/long term contract. From anyone.

    Just hope he is OK.

Sign him for a reasonable amt for 1 year. Draft his replacement (High). Then groom said replacement for 5 games until Marvell goes down again.

Well this will be the end of is career if he has another back surgery... a shame. Hopefully his back will get fixed and doesn't turn into a long term health thing for him. Would be a shame if he couldn't enjoy life after football as he imagined it.

Surgery does not fix backs, it lessens the symptoms.
Unfortunately Ive had 2 herniated disc operations.
Last thing Marvel needs to doing is bending over in a 3 pt stance for an aching back.
I feel for the guy and say retire, the pain isnt worth it bro.

...And with their 4th pick in the 2008 draft the Pittsburgh Steelers select Tony H. Ills from Texas
