Me too. Missing on him and Curtis Brown put us in the mess we have in secondary. Shows that the team can have a plan but no guarantees.

He could, just after the ball was caught and the WR took two steps.

Who remembers the game he was put on GRONK and pretty much took him out of the game his rookie (or 2nd year)??

At the end of the Day this move hasn't hurt us....it's not like we failed to get decent CBs in the draft b/c the team was sold on out ALLEN.
They didn't have much to choose from at the time.........glad it's over and the Steelers have cut their loses. Hopefully GOLSON lives up to his 2nd round pick and/or we get a good value CB (please no William Jackson) this draft.

Why don't you want Jackson? It's not as if he's just some Combine workout warrior... He lead the nation in passes broken up last season and has the size and length that Golson doesn't.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

And Jarvis Jones led the league in sacks??
I think his body control is average and sometimes weak.
He often gets off balance in transition. If he has to get physical at this level he's going to lose steps.
I've referred to him as a "leaner" where he bends his upper body to make contact....scares me.
The things can be coached out of a player but not a risk i'd take in the 1st.
I'd rate him in the 3rd/4th watching film alone.

RB, I will bite sir. I don't like corners in the 1st rd. To many bust. And that could be just because they are pushed up higher in the draft and should not be. Also the Steelers defense does not need great corner's IMO. But the D is changing so maybe the CB is more important then they used to be in a true DL D? But I still want to put the money in the D line, OLB and safety before CB. The price for avg CB is stupid money Vs other positions IMO. But if the do draft a CB first I will be cheering for him same as I did A. Blake! And there will be even more fan pressure for a poor 1st rd CB. Look at the crap JJ takes for being a bad pick for the 1st rd! Heck many were hard on Timmons also. And IMO has been a great ILB! Worth his pick IMO.

No offense, but this was the kind of BS I read about him that I never bought. His first couple years when he would play sparingly but did get on the field, people would cite nonsense about him based on circumstance. This Gronk game in which he "shut Gronk down" was silly. It was just a case of circumstance, where maybe Brady* didn't look his way enough of some other reason. Maybe the times he was supposed to look to Gronk, a rusher got good pressure. Whatever it was, it just happened that Allen was on Gronk at the time. But it wasn't because Allen was some coverage fiend.

Other times, people would cite how he got turnovers (I think he had a timely fumble recovery and even an INT), but if you really paid attention to those... none of them were actual plays made. They just kinda fell into his lap.

I make mistakes on guys too... but I wasn't really a fan of Allen at all. Keenan Lewis certainly showed more (though I know he wanted to move on). Lewis showed improvement, and better coverage ability. All Allen had going for him was an Ike Taylor-like stature and draft status (i.e. people thinking he could be the next Ike), and being in the right place at the right time.

Lastly, this being a CB related thread, I hope we get the kid from Alabama Cyrus Jones. Very good return man, and spunky, competitive DB who will pair well with Senquez. Get him in Rounds 2-3.
I wasn't hired for my disposition.

                That's a lot of MAYBES
Or MAYBE he did his job that game??
Don't worry, everyone agrees he was a bust. BUT don't take his 15 minutes of fame from him.

I don't believe Allen is a bust. I think he is going to be very good for someone. Mental lapses got him cut not physical ability. He was alwAys shadowing his responsibility but like SS said, (yes, I know this is physical ability too) he forgot to turn his head and get his hands up.

I like Jackson and wouldn't mind at all if he is the pick, but another concern to taking a CB in the 1st is that if he is a great player early on and builds a resume, do the steelers sign him to a big money contract? As someone pointed out, even average guys get stupid money on the open market

I don't believe they would, so you run the risk of a 1st rounder only being with the team for 5 years. Is it worth it? Maybe, but I'm not sure the Steelers value that position in $$ similar to their views at WR

I wouldn't be "concerned" at all if the Steelers picked a CB that was "a great player early on"; I'd be ecstatic. 5 years of great play from CB would be awesome, especially since that coincides with the likely remaining time in (not so Big) Ben's career. That said, I think there are only a small handful of CBs that the Steelers are truly looking at and fit what they do. If they don't pick a CB in the 1st, 58 will be too late (probably) for the 2nd round talent, and I would put my money on D.J. White in the 3rd (a little high, IMO) or 4th. Totally fits the Steeler CB profile.

I remember that game against Gronk. He was outstanding.

Unfortunately, this move didn't work out. The Steelers gambled a few times with locking up younger guys - Allen, AB and Gilbert. They hit on 2 out of 3.

If I would have put money on that 2 out of 3 back then, I would have guessed that Antonio and Cortez would be the successes and Gilbert would be the one we would regret. Shows what I know.

that's because his first year or 2 he was ALWAYS "injured"

but he was never so injured that he missed the next game.

Wasn't that the season that Gronkowski came back from that really bad injury? Was that the game where the killa was wide open the entire game? or had he already killed someone at that point and got thrown out the league?
