Annual PlanetSteelers Board Mock Draft (2016 sign-up thread)

With the actual draft a couple of weeks away, it's time to organize the good ol' board mock draft. Here's your chance to sign up for a team (or teams) and play GM (for a week-and-a-half, at least). We'll draft a total 3 rounds so that all teams are allowed to play (even the New England Cheetahs who deflated away their first round pick), with time slots lasting an hour for round one (8 picks to make on each day...Monday through Thursday of beginning the week of 4/18/16), then a half hour each for round two and three (16 picks each day leading up to draft day itself).

The teams will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis (with the exception being our Steelers, who will be assigned via lottery). If you sign up for a team, you will get one chance in the Steeler lottery. If you sign up for 2 teams, you will get two chances in the Steeler lottery. I will pick names out of a hat one week from today on Friday afternoon, so pick your teams before 4:00 EST next Friday (4/15/16), so that you have a shot at representing our Steelers and making our all-important picks! If teams are still available after that, you can sign up for more than two teams (so I am not just picking for every open team), but of course, the Steeler lottery will be over by then, so you won't get any more chances, obviously.

Trades are allowed among our GM's, but it must be 2016 picks for 2016 picks (no picks in future years and no current players). You can include picks in rounds 4-7 in trades, even though our draft will stop at the end of round three. Just as in real life, compensatory picks are untradeable (for one more year, at least). Use the standard draft trade value chart to determine fair trades (the points don't need to be exact, but they should be somewhat close to keep things fair). Here is a trade value calculator to help:

http://www.calculatorsoup.com/calcul...pick-value.php

If you sign up for a team and will not be near a computer when your team will be picking, you can send me your pick via PM (send me your top several guys you are considering in order, just in case the guy you want gets picked before your turn comes up). If you miss your pick outright, two teams behind you will be allowed to leapfrog you Minnesota Viking style as a penalty. At that point, I will make your pick for you, and we will continue to move forward as scheduled.

Have fun with it! When you make your pick, welcome him to the team...include pics, stats, scouting reports, and even your own personal justification for why you made this particular pick for this particular team.

I really hope that this continues to work this year, because I have had some issues using the "Edit Post" feature lately, and in order for me to keep the overall mock draft board updated in one place (without folks needing scroll through multiple pages to get every pick), I need to be able to edit the main post on the first page. Here's hoping it works this year!
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I can't post pics from work anymore unless I use my phone and that's a massive pain, so my picks are just going to have to be boring text this year, so we'll need you and your kids to keep it somewhat colorful.

Yeah, no kidding. I'd like to have 10 or more different voices in here to provide their input. Last year, we had 8 guys in total. If we don't get at least a half dozen signed up by the end of the week, then I think I'll have to call it off, unfortunately.

Cool, thanks...if we ultimately end up doing this (we still need several more volunteers to make this thing viable), I have training at work next Wednesday afternoon from 12:30-2:45 and next Thursday morning from 8:30-10:45 and will not have access to any computers during these times, so it would be helpful to me if someone else took control of the New York Jets, Washington Redskins, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Seattle Seahawks. I will not put my own name in the random hat to choose the Steeler picks this year, and it would be helpful if anyone else claimed NYJ, WAS, HOU, and SEA as well. Thanks.

I'll go ahead and take Washington, NY Jets, and Houston. Hoping others will sign up. I'd love to do Steelers too.

And for the record.. I like your first 3 picks for Steelers, although I'm a little reluctant on Apple... I love the Joseph pick, but he may need to be taken in round 2?? just so we get him.

And for the record.. I like your first 3 picks for Steelers, although I'm a little reluctant on Apple... I love the Joseph pick, but he may need to be taken in round 2?? just so we get him.
Thanks, man...I hope others sign up as well. If healthy, we'd be lucky to be able to land Karl Joseph at #58. Because of the injury, I'm hoping that he somehow falls to #89, though. Don't necessarily think it will happen, though...more wishful thinking than anything. If we get Joseph in round 2 of the actual draft, I'll be excited, because that will mean that our doctors were able to examine his progress and the medical checks out.

One thing about the draft is that there are surprises every year. Don't be surprised if they decide to take him in the 1st round. If they want him, they may just take him, especially if he's their #1 on the board. Let's remember that they stack their boards differently than everyone else. One option I could see happening is if they can find a trade partner, perhaps someone looking at a QB still on the board, they could trade down, get an extra pick and then take him early in the 2nd. I think they can get a very good DL in 2nd or 3rd round. Anyway, it is a crapshoot, as I always say. I like some of these Penn State guys on D as well.
