The NFL is filled with 1st round CB busts (Claiborne, Gilbert, Milliner, Kyle Wilson). Yet guys like Sherman and Norman are late rd gems. I'd much rather take multiple DB's outside the first rd and and hope to hit on one or two.
Please no first rd CB

That's like saying teams shouldn't take first round QB's because of busts like Manziel, Manuel, Weeden, Locker, Ponder, etc., yet guys like Tom Brady and Russell Wilson are late round gems.
Remember, the reigning defensive rookie of the year (Marcus Peters) is a first round corner. Jason Verett and Desmond Trufant are both successful corners taken in the late first round of recent drafts where the Steelers will be picking this year. Perennial Pro Bowlers like Darrell's Revis, Patrick Peterson, and Joe Haden were first round corners too.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus. -
I agree on CB and would draft 2 if possible. But what about a 1st rd safety? I see no reason for a 1st rd NT or DE. I do see a major need for a good NT/DE to back up the DE studs so they can have a breather. I see a major need for a KR/PR that can still be a small contributor at there position if needed so maybe one can fit at either CB or RB. WR is full up IMO at this point anyway. Oline might be a need but later in the draft I agree now with Munchak coaching them. Might be a guy on the roster even that can replace Foster. Maybe Adams can move to guard?
Also what about TE? I am concerned there. As certain times I am sure it was because of Miller that AB or another weapon was open!

The only first round safety this year is Jalen Ramsey, and he will probably go in the top 5 (definitely top 10). I wouldn't argue with a safety in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round, but there simply are not any safeties ranked anywhere near we happen to be picking in round one this year.I agree on CB and would draft 2 if possible. The results of our current secondary is exactly that.
Not drafting a corner high in the 1st since what???? deon figures???Comment

Yeah, I dont get that late round CB talk. We have done that for years and we miss on 9 out of 10 and the one we keep is usually average or takes a few years to become average.
If a good CB is there in the first and on our board. TAKE HIM.Steelers 27

After 2 dozen guys come off the board absolutely take the next name on your list if he is a defensive player at any level, an o-lineman, or a tight end, since those are all positions of need. I'm only limiting by top pick away from QB, RB, WR, and designated special teamers.Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

If the team goes CB, it has to be a high ceiling guy. I wouldn't want to see them draft another Gay/Allen/Blake/Golson/McCain/Grant, but if they see a guy who they believe can be much more then I'm okay.Comment

QB is a totally different animal. You can't win without a good one which is why you see so many reaches. You only start 1 QB. You're playing multiple Corners. That's like saying teams shouldn't take first round QB's because of busts like Manziel, Manuel, Weeden, Locker, Ponder, etc., yet guys like Tom Brady and Russell Wilson are late round gems.

when was the last time you heard any coach or gm say, 'we think this guy can eventually develop into a mediocre player'?
ever guy you mentioned was talked about highly by our staff
hell, most 'fans' on here proclaim every one of our picks to be steals of the draft, day one starters or mid season starters, valuable depth now and starer next year.steelers = 3 ring circus with tomlin being the head clownComment

No. Please do. I understand your take on it but I'm tired of the way the Steelers have been approaching the secondary. I want a potential stud at corner or safety and the odds go up the higher you pick one. There are no guarantees of course either way. We've seen how we've done using your approach. Let's try a different one for a change. We've proven we can find talent late in the draft at pretty much every position BUT corner and safety.Comment

There's a beat reporter who claims they were looking to trade up last year for trae wayans but couldn't find a partner.
At least we know they are looking to fix the problemComment
