I would not have pulled for Denver if I'd read this first

One thing to be a dou**e at 20 years old, but to systematically lie over the next two decades to ruin another person's life is something else. Despicable.

The document is in the link.

Here's what I got from that. It's shorter than the article, but there is a whole lot there to read. None of it sounds good for the Mannings IMO.

Manning allegedly tea bagged a female trainer who had a sterling rep at Tenn.

The coach at the time made up a story about how he tried to moon another athlete and she looked up at the wrong time. The player they said was mooned said under oath that the story was all BS. The coach said under oath that he was the first one to say the story about mooning people (in other words he didn't hear it form anyone else and he made it up).

They signed a non-disclosure agreement. She was let go and went to a different University. It also says that the two employees at Tenn urged her to say that it was a black player that sexually abused her instead of Manning.

After being pushed out of Tenn, she had great success training athletes at her new University and for US National Teams.

Despite the non-disclosure agreement, the Mannings wrote a book. In it, they describe her as being unprofessional (frequently using vulgar language). She sued them for defamation of character. She was fired from her position as a Professor at the University she was working at.

The Mannings testified to her having a foul mouth under oath. Manning said that she had the worst language of any woman she'd known. He said that she was trying so hard to be one of the boys. When asked, he could only give one example of foul language. There were a bunch of other students involved in this story. All of those students also testified under oath that the story from the Mannings was totally false and that she was actually perfectly professional.

Archie also said that on top of using vulgar language, the trainer would frequently sneak into the dorms and have sex with African American student athletes. Everyone else that testified under oath that this was untrue or that they had no actual evidence or first hand knowledge of it being true. Several more athletes she had worked with for long stretches of time testified that she had always been professional (no vulgar language, no sex).

Sounds like the case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

Pretty much, it says that the Mannings (at least Archie and Payton) are pretty much pieces of ****.

I had heard about the allegations of assault with the trainer. That is old news. I was not aware of Manning and his dad going out of their way to trash her reputation later. If the facts set forth in the brief linked in the article are true (we only have Naughright's response, not the original motion to which it is responding), then yes, Manning and his dad are both pretty despicable.

            lucky me

I didn't root for Denver... because I already knew Manning was a douche. But, "blame it on the black dudes..." wow. You'd think eventually, that would get old...

And the story of Carolina's kid with cancer from an early December-ish episode of Inside the NFL, made that a very easy decision for me...

I was aware of the story but not the details. I just lost my respect for the guy. That's a sorry story.

I hope Eli is still a good person, though.

I know many guys who acted very act like dix way back when, and now, are fathers/managers/coaches (i.e. upstanding gentlemen). Heck, look at Ben--(the rape thing) at the very least, he acted like an entitled jerk to that girl. Now? By most accounts, Ben is a devoted family man.

Like I said on the OP, it's one thing to act that way "way back then", it's another to spend the next *20 years* destroying someone's personal and professional life.

Below is a link to an article with reference to additional pleadings in the lawsuit. The NY Daily News included only the trainer's side of the story - this seems to have a bit more info, but I haven't read it in detail yet.

And if that's what's actually happening, the Manning's are quite a powerful (and despicable) family. I wonder if this story will just fade to nothing again in the near future. I really feel bad for that female trainer if she really was a victim of such a smear campaign.

And for a guy with otherwise such a great reputation, I thought it was incredibly cheesy and cheap for him to kiss Papa John after the game was over and to shamelessly promote Budweiser. It feels even more odd given the fact that the Broncos won despite Peyton and not even remotely because of him.

it's business and Peyton makes a lot of people money.

same way they say on Tiger Woods infidelity until his wife broke his face. Papers knee about it for years and used it to get Tiger cover stories.
