Toni: What's the deal with Troy boycotting all team events? What in the world does he have to be mad about? He was a liablility in coverage for two years, agree?
Gerry Dulac: I agree. If there is some acrimony, it's because Troy is upset he was released. Of course, he's free to sign with another team if he still wants to play. But he found out what Hines Ward found out -- other teams watch film too. They know they what they see.
Troy was never a guy whose life revolved around football. He has other interests, and his identity as an NFL player never defined him. Now that he's not playing it, I don't think that he's all that much of a football fan. I don't think it's anything personal...I just think he feels that he has better things to do than to show up a Steeler events.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.
Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.
We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.
We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

exactly what i was thinking... EXACTLY... even when he *retired*, I was certain I had read that we shouldn't expect him back too often because of what you say here.

I'd like that to be the reason. But I've read in more than one place that he was pretty upset about being released and wanted to continue playing. I think he was also not happy about LeBeau being released.
Replaceable "Carbon Unit." If Troy wants to pout because the reality of his diminishing skills became a liability or because of LeBeau and his diminishing performance as a coach then so be it. Last I checked the Steelers played a full season without him and made the play offs. Life and the Steelers go on. If true, Troy needs to get over himself. Not liking the business side...really??? Didn't seem to mind "business" when it was making him a millionaire many times over
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

I mean, I'm sure both sides are fine and aren't losing sleep.

If you don't enjoy on any level the great individual players who contribute to the success of the Steelers, I feel sorry for you. You are really missing out on a lot of the experience of being a fan.
Troy was upset over his release - as I suspect many on the board would be if they were fired. Wexell did some really nice work in documenting Troy's reaction.
I was and always will be a huge Troy Polamalu fan.

I agree with your thoughts on enjoying the great individual players that have contributed.
I don't agree with even remotely equating Troy's release with any of us being fired. Football players know they have limited time in the NFL. Most don't take it well when they can no longer play like they once did but they go into it knowing that day will come when they're still young people but "old" players. Guys like Troy have become multi-multi millionaires for it. He's probably make more from Head and Shoulders than most of us will make in our lifetimes.

That is fair - there certainly is a difference in that an NFL career is limited in duration. But I still am not going to fault a player for being upset with the decision.
At the time, Wexell (who had the interview with Troy) reported that Troy wasn't bitter, simply upset and hurt. I get that and don't blame him one bit.
