    Steelers Related SB Thoughts

A few Steelers related thoughts from the SB:

    - After watching Von Miller eat Cam Newtown alive, I realized how good the Steelers offensive line was against Denver, and in general this season. I'd be really hesitant to mess with the consistency on that offensive line.

    - I miss the days when the Steelers had two fearsome pass rushers coming off the edge.

    - The Denver D is really good - at every level. The Steelers can't get there in one offseason, but they obviously have much more on offense.

    - The Steelers have already invested heavily in the front 7, but I'd add 2 more players this year. Both SB defenses had great talent and great depth in the front 4.

IMO, if the Steeler defense continues to get better (which seems likely based on the end of the season) that's all the Steelers will need to be a major contender. The Steeler offense, even at less than full health, is a bear to deal with by any defense. So, IMO, whatever the Steelers need to do to improve the defense to some degree will put them in a good position as a well balanced team. If I'm the Steeler front office I figure out how to keep the offense together for the next 5 years and improve the defense where it can and they will be a playoff team competing for Super Bowls.

IMO, the Broncos were very fortunate last night that the Panthers as a whole let the Super Bowl experience overwhelm them. The Bronco offense wasn't even good enough to get 1st downs to burn clock, they put the defense in a bad position many times that any offense even having an average night would have scored more than 10 points and put pressure on the Denver offense. At least in Ben's horrible Super Bowl he made some plays with arm and feet to help, the Broncos got nothing from the quarterback position after the 1st drive, that shows you how good the Denver defense was last night.

All I could think of is Steelers Defensive players, coaches and their front office watching this and saying to each other "this is going to be us"
Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...
Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...
Here We Go Steelers, Here We Go...!!!

Denver defense allowed 1 passing TD in the playoffs vs Ben, Brady and Cam.

My thoughts exactly, their whole defense, and especially the front 7 carried them through out their playoff games and super bowl. Probably, one of the greatest defenses, as a group, I have seen in a while! During the game, I kept on thinking, "how did we score and control that game". Now thinking about it, it wasn't a fumble on Toussant, but a great play by their defense that won the game! Which is a testament of how our offense is that good, even without Brown, Bell, Williams, Pouncey and AV!

Now only if Dupree and Jones take bigger steps, and lets start to soildify our DB to allow that pressure on the QB.

we havea QB who doesn't get rattled when he gets sacked and our play calling helped protect our QB.

I was surprised the Panthers didn't call more runs for Cam or move the pocket.

Frustrating because it just showed how close we were to being in this game. One fumble away from the Broncos being at home watching
"My team, may they always be right, but right or wrong...MY TEAM!"

Statistically speaking, the fumble was not the play that cost the Steelers the game. It was the 3rd down and 12 where Denver hit a 31 yard conversion. That's when it went below a 50% chance of winning. Really needed a third and long stop there.

I kept think during this game. Here is the blueprint for our Steelers taking the next step with watching the Broncos defense. If we had one shut down corner and a Miller type on our team to get things in place, we could be unstoppable. We don't even need a shut down corner, just one that can hold his own.

shut down corner? what is that? I will take any talent that can hold his own in a form of a corner or safety

Could Shazier or Dupree be that star in the making?

Denver D is very good, Yes, but very lucky as well. We had a horrible injury status offensively (still we *barely* lost even though we played with 3rd and 4th string RBs, 2nd string center and virtually a walk-on LT, and Ben with a crippled wing); Marsha Brady ** played behind an OL that was a shambles; and who knew that Cam Newton had the inner strength and courage of a sea slug when the chips were down.

                        lucky? not sure about that...

you can only play the guys in front of you and Denver shut the QB's out of the endzone in the playoffs.

Cam generally doesnt get rattled either. The moment got to him IMO.
The next time he's in the dance (and Im very sure there will be a next time; regardless of the SB he's a beast), he'll have been there before.

Isn't that true of every D in the NFL?

All we need are the two hardest things to find on the defensive side of the ball. One dominant corner and one player that dominates bringing pressure.

I honestly don't think it's about experience (ask Brady).

I just think that Denver's D is (1) amazing and (2) peaked at the right time.
