Name the Steelers first pick in this years draft by position

Not what you believe it should be ***cough, corner back, cough*** but what you believe the Steelers will do.

Also, when you name that position, name the player most likely to be there that also fits the Steelers mold.

I'll be back later with my one cent....

For some reason I really want the steelers to find a way to draft the guy from Clemson Shaq lawson. Probably won't be available at 25 but he can sure wreak havoc

It will depend on who is available. "If" a corner is the highest rated player at a position of need that will be it. If their is a higher rated safety, or olber it would be our first. You cannot project the specific position.

In view of the fact that Mike Tomlin has matched Cowhers record I give him the designation:

My preferences would be a top Def Line or pass rushing OLB available and then go CB and S the next two picks.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Offensive Line. Foster and Beachum going forward are unknowns and we have no quality depth. It would be fun to watch the heads explode on this board like the TV commercial that is now running.

Although we want quality secondary help in the worst way, I doubt that they reach for a corner or safety in the first if the right fit for them simply isn't there where we are picking in round one. I also doubt that they go linebacker yet again.

If they feel that Hunter Henry from Arkansas is truly another Heath Miller type (I like the value we got with Jesse James in round 5 last year, but I think he'd be more of a Jerame Tuman like complement than another Heath)...I could really see them pulling the trigger on him at #25. Henry's a more complete TE prospect than Maxx Williams, who many of us were targeting early last year (and who might have been our 2nd round pick if Baltimore didn't leapfrog us). Since they used the last 3 first rounders on defense, I could see them using their top pick on offense for a change, even if it isn't the biggest overall need on the team. And before that, the first rounders that we used on offense were to address the o-line with DeCastro and Pouncey. The only first round picks the we used on offensive skill positions since drafting Heath back in 2005 was Santonio in 2006 and Mendenhall in 2008, and both are long gone.

If we do go defense in round 1 again and there are no suitable DB's of value where we are selecting, I could see them going with a dominant run stuffing presence up the middle like Andrew Billings from Baylor or Jarran Reed from Alabama, since Steve McLendon is a free agent and Daniel McCullers is more of a situational backup type. Guys like this may not get sacks themselves, but they can collapse the pocket which prevents the opposing QB from being able to step up in the pocket, thereby leaving them more vulnerable to pressure from our outside rush. And a DT like that would also keep our ILB's clean to cause havoc, either by making sideline-to-sideline plays or even stunt blitzes up the middle. Although those guys would be an NT in our base 3-4, it wouldn't just be a 2 down type of player who would be useless in nickel and dime sets which are used more than half the time now, because Billings or Reed could also sub in for Heyward or Tuitt in 4 man nickel or dime fronts without any significant dropoff so we aren't relying on those guys to be out on the field for 99% of the defensive snaps.
Steeler teams featuring stat-driven, me-first, fantasy-football-darling diva types such as Antonio Brown & Le'Veon Bell won no championships.

Super Bowl winning Steeler teams were built around a dynamic, in-your-face defense plus blue-collar, hard-hitting, no-nonsense football players on offense such as Hines Ward & Jerome Bettis.

We don't want Juju & Conner to replace what we lost in Brown & Bell.

We are counting on Juju & Conner to return us to the glory we once had with Hines & The Bus.

I'm seeing reports from the Senior Bowl that the Steelers are looking at defensive lineman. I think they go that way.

Since we grabbed two CBs last yr I wouldn't go CB in the first UNLESS our guy was there. You know the guy that's going to come in day 1 and compete.

Having said that here is my first choice by position: SS then ROLB.

I wouldn't complain about Henry at all. If they go that route, I do think that they need to add one free agent on defense, whether depth on the defensive line, a safety, or a corner who represents an upgrade.

Had to quote you because we're completely on the same page.

My Guess: KENNY CLARK, DT, UCLA
My gut says don't be surprised by one of those good o-linemen as well considering contracts, injuries and underperformers... a few late first-round talents (Decker, Conklin)

I don't think CB's the pick because of who they have, who they can retain for cheap AND Goslson coming back.

It is very easy to say CB. Unfortunately, by the time the Steelers pick at 25, which CB are you going to get? Everything I have seen shows Hargeaves, Ramsey, and Alexander going very early. Afterwards, you are hoping that Fuller or Apple fall to 25, and at that point you are strictly looking at the next tier.

OTOH, a player like Hunter Henry is considered a top TE prospect, and easily the best of this class. On top of that, he has hands and can block. With Heath gone in the not-too-distant-future, I can see them taking a guy who sounds like a perfect replacement.
